2.7.0 Observations, 3 up 3 down

Positives:
#1 Chest lag
#2 Scenery and lighting
#3 Indoor rain

Negatives:
#1 Inertia/Movement system change
#2 Rain lag/FPS drag
#3 1 and 2 combined feel rather like I’m skating

SUMMARY: the positives slightly outweigh the negatives. As many of you know I was forced to take a hiatus due to vision problems. These problems caused permanent damage that can make flashing, surging or de-synced visuals very hard to deal with. Other people may find the #3 negative intolerable, especially people with fairly high seizure or pre-seizure scores. I am attempting to be objective about these issues, or as objective as possible.

The Large Chest lag is finally gone. Although benches, vaults and hives and other things still lag, this was a crucial 1/2 to 1 second we simply never get back.

Scenery and lighting look incredible. Great job, makes the game look amazing. Indoor rain gone, big plus.

Someone made a stealth change to the Movement System. My toon is moving like a hamster on crack. It takes a little while to settle to a stop now. This is much like how it was when the system was first implemented so maybe … defaults?

The rain is causing severe FPS tanking, rubberbanding and teleporting in some places. Trying to fight the new event in Flotsam was quite disconcerting at first because the many and varied enemies seemed to scoot around during the rain. Thankfully it stopped.

Where we used to have smooth running motion during rain, we are now seeing a few frames being dropped from the animation, or they are being re-looped. The effect is your character appears to be surging with a very slight limp.

For me I got none of those positives.

My chests and benches became instant with the 2.5? update. Right now with 2.7 they are about 1/10th of a second slower or the same.
I haven’t noticed any difference in the lighting - but I’ve been running the game on an HDR 10+ monitor in HDR mode so maybe that’s why?
I’m playing on the Isles Of Siptah map and we’re in a severe drought - have been for longer than I can remember.

The new update that came yesterday makes the server feel like there are 30 or 40 people online when there are only 4 or 5 actually on. And rubberbanding like I haven’t seen since way way back. My character is also doing weird things… Like I took down a ~1,000 piece bridge at first one piece at a time (because the “Return All Connected Pieces” feature was NOT working in the previous build, and didn’t know it was fixed), and with each “return to inventory” operation my character would jump back half way to the previous location (typically one block’s distance). But the “Return All Connected” dismantling is working now so that’s a plus - even if they didn’t mention it in the notes.

So, can you specify what is new, different, or improved about the “Scenery and lighting” as seen on your particular system?

I could say that on PS4 the textures improved remarkably because before I had a lot of lag despite playing offline and the rendering was fatal, it also kept me out of the game constantly; but now it is very fluid and there is no problem being in the rain.

I’m not seeing this, my character stops instantly - at least on Official. For some reason, movement is really bad in singleplayer, but it was like that before 2.7 as well.

Your big, beautiful Volcano causeway is yet intact? (I’ve been concerned.)

I will make a comparison of all these things when I have enough time to do side-by-side inspection. My regular decay loops are feeling significantly “slicker” under my feet. I’ll have a lot of before, and will gather more “after,” once our Flash Sale is successfully launched.

Yeah, it is perfectly fine.

In every test, the moment I release the key, the only animation that continues is my character going into the idle pose and I stop wherever my farthest foot forward was when I let go.

Are you on console, perhaps? I am on PC, maybe there is a platform difference…

PC. Again, it’s prevalent (thus noticeable and then no longer unseeable) during any rain at all. I have detected it near the Wardtowers or out near Heliograph, for instance. Wherever you get a goodly amount of rain.

If it is only in rainy areas, then it seems to be directly related to the rain lag issue and not the movement system.

OK. Like I said, the rain makes it worse. As in, the rain FPS/lag has made the changes seem more obvious. I’m not sure I can be clearer than that.

Once you have indeed determined there’s a difference, it becomes obvious under your feet elsewhere. When I have the side-by-side time I’ll show it. Preliminarily, my foot speed is about 1.25 times faster, when I compare the before and after vids.

Hmm, maybe character height matters too. I keep testing it, and I just can’t see anything. My character height is lowest possible.

I would like to see the side-by-side, but until then, I don’t see anything unusual in my movement.

(It hasn’t started raining anywhere yet, so all my experiments so far have been without the influence of rain lag.)

Edit: It started raining, I still didn’t observe anything different about my movement.

what you meand about scenery and lightning? they didnt change it in 2.7 at all

I’ve followed your discussions in TestLive, so I’m familiar with your input. The lighting for the moonlight is granular and filtered now, almost as if someone removed an occluding layer. The sunlight displays actual rays and particle effects, whereas it was clouded and obscured in previous patches.

I noticed the sun rays pouring through the jungle canopy in the morning light yesterday while I was riding through. It was instantly noticeable and beautiful. I have all of my video settings on cinematic.
