This has been collecting dust in my drafts for a bit.
I was casually browsing through the forum, as I do.
When I came across the inspiration for this thread.
A little more digging brought me to a post @SirDaveWolf made:
Who you can follow for more content here:
With that being said, I’d like for us as a community to try and come up with 532 tips/tricks that you’ve learned while playing. I know a lot of players come here for information. This can be a fun way to share something you’ve learned. The more descriptive the better in my opinion, visuals aren’t required but are appreciated. This can be anything and everything you can imagine. If you have multiple tips please break up your comments.
Rule #1. Trust no one at first. Still be cordial but assume they are only trying to friend you in order to raid you…in fact you should provide false information to the chatty people that wanted you in their group.
Rule #2. Build small and out of the way (AKA hidden) until you can properly make a statement base.
Rule #3. Never get attached to your stuff and always have an exit strategy or back up base.
Rule #4. Remember that you are playing against others and what you see of them, they see of you. Eventually they will take notice that you are online and scout for you. Give them something to find, a fake base…make sure it is a pain in the @$$ to crack into…you can even throw in a level 1 blacksmith in the center of a solid cube of foundations to entice them to get to it.
Rule #5. Decay timers are a thing that can give you away. Make sure you visit all of your locations before logging off in order to ensure they think they found the right base.
Rule #6. If you have friended folks from the server, make sure your turn your profile to offline status so they can’t glean where you are from your updates. (Playstation)
Rule #7. Dungeon/vault crawl at times there is minimal people online. PVP folk have tendencies to camp at locations where they know you went into and wait till you pop out while your screen is loading and kill you.
Rule #8: Named thralls are more important than craftables. Protect them over your inventory.
Rule #9. Use maprooms carefully. See rule #7.
Rule #10. Remember that stuff comes and goes…toxicity is what stays. If there are toxic clans, find their hidden spots and tell others toxic clans. Let them battle eachother to oblivion. Pick up the pieces right afterwards while they are thinking they won alpha spots. Hopefully one or both rage quits.
Rule #11. Find a way to get reliable night sight (Night sight potions or legendary gear). Torches are just neon lights to get killed.
Rule #12: Maprooms work underwater. It’s a fine way to stay mobile while not noticed.
Rule #13: If it’s on youtube, it’s known. Use only as inspiration not as blueprints.
Rule #14: And probably the most important one. Don’t forget to have fun! It’s called a game for a reason. If you are dreading it like a job, take a break and recenter your priorities in life.
Rule #15: You are faster than the Arena Champion. Don’t waste your time trying to kill her.
Rule #16: The Mask of the Witch Doctor is one of the most essential legendary gear you can possibly obtain. You spend more time farming than raiding so any efforts to minimize that part of the game will provide larger impact to you game QoL than min-maxing your character for a raid.
Rule #17: If the base is laggy, don’t waste a god token on it. It will boot you off. Use explosives instead
Give me some time, I had to read a lot here and I don’t want to repeat, still my first tip is something that surely nobody mention again,
Play with @Zeb
Rule #18: Stumps should be harvested first. Trees falling are visible from a greater distance.
Rule #19: Ensure you got a good ichor spot picked out and relatively close by. Alchemical base is a good thing to have around but tends to be forgotten.
Rule #20: When establishing an alter. Make sure you get all the favor you need for a bubble/avatar and leveling to T3 before leveling to a T3. You want the ability to activate immediately when it goes public on the map.
Rule #21: Maximize your thrall hunting with killing those not worthy religious harvesting, or human flesh to be turned to blood. Skins can bbe obtained via the plentiful reptiles on either map.
Rule #22: Remember the old swimming adage…you don’t have to swim faster than a shark, you just have to swim faster than the other swimmers. Same applies to base defense. Your base has to be just more difficult than others playing and or seen as less desireable.
Be your self and accept others as they are. It’s a game and the main goal is fun. If you don’t like something name it kindly, if it doesn’t change, walk away, you are in a game to have fun, not to break your b… s, you have your real life for it, not your gaming time.
There are fun places to sleep so that when you wake up your adventure can begin there. I like to sleep in the rafters at Conan’s Tavern, or in a multiplayer environment, under the planks of the Black Galleon.
Rule #23: [Adjusted Barnes rule] If body vaulting/ extended break, do so in no build zone so that you aren’t encased with some future base.
Rule #24: If on foot, stay close to cliffs to climb up or scale down in case of horses.
Rule #25: Cherish the slow time and enjoy the scenery. A team of graphic artists spent a lot of time working the landscape out. It is art, appreciate it.
Rule #26: Instead of grinding out for hours at a time. Try doing 10 minutes blocks of resource harvesting everyday instead. It’s not as tedious and allows you to actually play longer without mental fatigue.
Rule #27: Remember raid windows and server refresh times. These need to be included in all plans you have. (IE thrall hunting right before server reset so that you get a total refresh of all NPC’s without the time of killing and respawning)
Rule #28: Scout your base area everyday if possible. Thralls and mounts as well as some placeables can clue you in if you are being scouted for a raid soon just as much as a vault placed near you.
Rule #29: Remember to have a stash site somewhere else for quick rebuilding if you are wiped.
Rule #30: If solo, don’t put yourself in a clan. Use uncertainty to your advantage when you are offline.
Tip 247: When raiding, throw away their booty – or better yet lie and say you crevice-canned their loot. Not only will they have nothing to come after you with, they’ll also believe there’s nothing to retrieve.
