A Call for an Unreal Engine 5 Enhanced Edition: Let’s Revive This Hidden Gem

The atmosphere, storytelling, investigation mechanics, and unique modern/occult horror setting in SWL remain unmatched by any other MMO. The lore is rich, the quests are memorable, and the world feels alive in a way that so many theme-park MMOs fail to achieve. This game deserves to thrive, not just survive.

One major way to breathe new life into it would be an Unreal Engine 5 Enhanced Edition (UR5 upgrade). Modernizing the visuals with UE5’s Nanite, Lumen lighting, improved animations, and better performance optimization would make the shadowy streets of New York, the foggy horrors of Transylvania, and the ancient mysteries of Egypt look absolutely stunning in 2026. It could also open the door to better console support, attract new players, and give veterans a fresh reason to return.

Funcom has proven they can deliver big technical updates with other titles. An SWL revival project, even if phased (graphics update first, followed by quality-of-life improvements, new content, and better endgame), could turn this cult classic into a flagship title again.

The foundation is already incredible. With some polish, renewed marketing, and consistent content updates, Secret World Legends could reclaim its spot as one of the most original and compelling MMOs out there.

What do you think, team? Players are still here and passionate, let’s make this game the success it always deserved to be.

It would need rebuilt from the ground up, not just fed through a new engine.
I am of the opinion that nobody knows how to work the old “Spaghetti code” as it was once called.
And Funcom have proven one thing and one thing alone.
They don’t care.

It is at this point, lip service, perhaps due to the contractual terms and “Life expectancy” being given of 5 years on relaunch and that was shortened to 4 as stated in their quarterly reports.
We knew the date would come when nobody on the Funcom side would be around anymore.

Add to this the tencent takeover of Funcom and dictating where the money goes and to which department meant a complete axing of anything related to this game.
Who can say. . .

That’s not to say that it couldn’t or might never happen, its nice people still have some hope for the game, but to quote Ash

"I can’t lie to you about your chances, But…*You have my sympathies"
