Yes but also at that point in time Funcom was literally about to shut down their doors permanently and the Early Access sales of Conan Exiles were the only thing that saved them from going under. So in truth they likely could not have afforded to hire anyone at that point in time who did know anything about UE4, let alone more than one.
I also believe that this is the reason behind them signing a long term contract with such a garbage server company (g-portal). No one else was willing to take a risk with a company who was about to shut down. So they signed with who they could, and are stuck with said contract. So although they could certainly get better performance on their official servers simply by migrating them to a better server hosting platform, they are legally bound to stay with g-portal due to the contract they have signed. But at the time, it was better to HAVE servers than not.
And I do agree that this shoddy foundations full of cracks tends to be the root cause of why so many bugs persist and others take so long to isolate and locate in order to be corrected. There have been plenty of bugs that some people experience that I have not, and some that I have and other people I know have not. When they tend to occur at random, affecting one person but not another, it makes it that much harder to even find where the bug is stemming from in the first place, let alone how to correct it. And at the same time, this is a topic that the community has zero patience for what so ever, no matter how many times such information is spelled out for them.
As to the last part of your comment, they would only ever do such a thing if they truly had no intentions of ever updating the game again. When it was truly in “maintenance mode” as people love to spew about, such as Age of Conan is currently in. I do not see that happening any time in the near future.
That being said, people really need to stop abusing modders because it is disgusting.
