A simple way to deal with too many bases

So similar to my recent thread suggesting banks as a simple solution to big Conan Exiles problems, I realized that one of the flaws (from my opinion) with Conan is that bases do not require maintenance and can simply be reset by just logging in for a second and logging out. The result is clans owning too many bases and/or absentee landlords. This is one of the problems with developing an effective offline protection system in that there would never be a way to get rid of these “problem” bases.

I think the best solution would be to establish a land claim mechanism or a real maintenance requirement but that would take quite a bit of effort and may mess up the PVE folks…

My simple suggestion is to just increase the amount of time it takes to reset a base. Even bumping it up to 1 hour would probably result in a number of excess bases disappearing. I suspect that there are a lot of bases whereby even spending one hour a week resetting them would be a pain in the rear for the owning clan therefore they would just focus on their key base/bases. I’d be open to even increasing the amount of time required to reset.

Thoughts?

Hmm. 1+ hour? Not quite enough, I think.

Oh, how about 1% tick of damage every max amount of time to reset? So every 336 hours the outer surface of your base takes a very minor amount of damage that has to be repaired?

There are a few flaws in the current land claiming mechanics, but I really don’t see it changing. Would take too much work to overhaul the entire system.

I’ve played Citadel: Forged with Fire and in that game, you can basically only ever really have one permanent base, because you need the Throne connected to the base for it not to decay so quickly. While this is a step in the right direction, people would still circumvent this by simply building land bridges everywhere. I’ve even seen people do this in Conan too, building long highways all over the map so they can reset everything from one centralized location.

The ultimate mechanic is what I’ve found on some ARK servers, which is simply to limit the number of pieces a player can place. If you want multiple bases, fine, they won’t be very big. Want a large base? Alright, but that is the only base you’ll have. I can’t remember how, but you can see how many pieces your clan bases have in total. Might show up in one of the in-game tabs. If I remember correctly, my current clan base consumption is around 15,000 pieces. Might be even more now, but lets say Funcom decided to implement a 5,000 piece limit. I think one of the main draws of the game still is building creatively and when you’re limited by a finite number, you end up getting bored a lot faster.

Definitely a tough nut to crack…

Yeah that would work as well. I was just thinking my idea would be really easy to implement i.e. just change the code that impacts the amount of time needed to reset a base. Trying to think of easy to implement solutions (not necessarily the best though).
