I imagine it’s to avoid P2W. While I agree with that sentiment, there wouldn’t be anything wrong with offering a purchasable container that offers no advantages over base game items.

If the mystery box offered 45 slots, like the large chest, it wouldn’t be P2W. :man_shrugging:

EDIT: So, it turns out that this mystery box is really small, slightly bigger than the incense. Given its size, I’m okay with it not being a container.

I also expected this to be a variant of a vanilla chest. Or, with the illusion system in game, something that could be applied to an existing storage item.

No need for it to be better or worse than a vanilla box. Useless deco clutter is disappointing when the name of the item implies it has a function.

Now, if it was ALSO possible to build a version with storage so that one could ‘hide’ a real storage box among the illusions … that I’d appreciate more.

That is what it erks me, the placebale onpy concept. They would have more support of they looked at some old functional items, like crafting stations, armor, weapons, pets, t3 building sets (black ice ans reinforced atine) and did reskins, coloe variations as rewards in BP. Imagine having to add certain dyes to the T3 pieces to get green moss, red brick, light gray black ice. Or a golden building, even a crystal black ice (think glass translucent).

Edit:
Or deaign variations. Atented version of garrison black smith for pve, so you can build a standalone blacksmith in your pve settlements. Make a well that can have dark blood red water. Or use the thrall pot thay only stores poison, and if filled has a bubbling green liquid effect.

I thought that the large chest has only 35 and the wooden great box has 40, or am I wrong?

The large chest has 45, the large crate has 50.

There’s a bug with the UI, though. When you’ve filled the next-to-last row of slots, the last row doesn’t show up until you close the container and open it again.

Just one more of many, many little long-standing bugs in Conan Exiles

Yeah, that bug I use normally and I thought it is not intended  I really thought the capacity is 35 and the last row is a mistake.

What’s it’s footprint? If it’s smaller,then it’s p2w.

I haven’t placed any yet but from the descriptions above…maybe there is an assumption that we got wrong. We all though storage because of the word “box” but what if it’s just like incense? Pretty box with weird smoke. From what I have seen, the size matches

It’s not. The large chest had 45 slots even before they introduced that UI bug. I forgot what update brought the bug, but it wasn’t there from the start.

Holy crap, you’re right. I only got that BP reward last night, and I didn’t craft it right then. I went into single-player to check, and it’s a tiny bit bigger than the incense.

I’ll edit my post and explain why I was wrong. Thanks for bringing that up!

Yeah, its no different than the other purely aesthetic placeables in the game.

I’m not sure I understand your p2w comment @erjoh. As a non PvP player perhaps you could elaborate for me? The only advantage I can see is the ability to have more storage in a smaller footprint. I suppose smaller builds are easier to hide in pvp?

I appreciate your valuable insight, I’m genuinely curious.

Yes that is huge. If I can create smaller storage outposts/hides then you can’t find them as easy and therefore you can raid my crafting zones (IE base) and wipe it. By 2 hours post wipe, I’m back up and running my benches while you are out hundreds of explosives trying to stop me. You get maybe a few stacks of base supplies.

Gotcha, makes sense. Thanks!

That wpuld be barely. There ia no real hiding spot, if you know how to scout. My clan has 5 years on pvp, ans we basically are always scouting. Some may think building small is a way to avoid being loot raided, but smaller = less time and bombs, so we will usually pop those bases if we know they have a large troll base. To be p2w they would have to be almost 10x smaller or have 3x the health. Anything else is just raid fodder.

If I had chests the size of incense boxes, you would be able to find them unless you did foundation sweeping grid by grid.

i dont get how is reskinned chests (metal) is pw2?
it just need to be same price\size\hp\capacity

And also you would have to do boring and unforgiving decay timer runarounds every day.

Not exactly. There are ways to get building support in a manner that blends in the surroundings and maintain full decay timer. Getting a smaller footprint means I can actuallly cap them off without the need for walls at all.

That is the issue though. These mystery boxes are tiny in comparison. If it was a storage vessel of equal capacity of a full large chest I would call that P2W

I’d honestly prefer it to be a box the size of the large chest. That’s what I thought it was. If they made it bigger (to avoid p2w issues) and made it a reskin of the large chest, I’d be perfectly content. If anything, it probably wouldn’t be stackable easily, so it would most likely be as far away from p2w as possible.

yep. I like the way it looks regardless. But I still think it’s a reskinned incense and we just zigged in assumption vs zagging.

Just wait till more of the plant stuff comes on the bazaar about P2W. Camouflage is a thing and those good at it measure pvp bases in months.
