Age of Conan was a game pushed out way too soon. Anyone can see this for themselves by download and playing. The 1-20 game in Tortage is one of the better story elements I have seen in a MMORPG. It blasts anything I’ve seen come out of Bioware or Zenimax (SWOTOR/KOTOR/Mass Effect or Elder Scrolls/Fallout), with the lack of being able to romance characters (that wasn’t exactly a thing yet in RPGs around AoC’s time). Unfortunately that doesn’t carry over to New Tarantia, Khemi, or Conach Valley or beyond. And I do recommend everyone try playing the Tortage area, its free to play, and is actually a great experience and you get to see some stuff that heavily inspired Conan Exiles.

Now I never got to play The Secret World in its original iteration. A friend of mine did, but their memory is a bit faint on that one. But I have recently played Secret World Legends, and outside of the way the game handles targeting abilities (its a tab target MMO that uses a crosshair aimed by the mouse to target instead of cycleing targets with tab or clicking them), I don’t have much complaint about it. Its a good looking game, very well presented. And generally fun. All I can assume is that Funcom basically called the game ‘complete’ which is something that MMORPGs don’t tend to do (Everquest for example will release its 30th expansion in December after being in active development for 24 years). And so not much is being added to it. My full judgement will have to wait till max level. But even if the complaints start there, I would have had a full game’s worth of good content to rival many other even current RPGs. Its actually kept my interest more than Baldur’s Gate 3 has (and that isn’t to say I think BG3 is a bad game, I do like it too, but I lost interest after 22 hours for other games, and I don’t play new games for the sake of it, my steam library is anemic by most if not all standards).
