I don’t either. But I don’t exactly have a great idea to fix it either.

The system giving us pets is borked and has been since its inception. Like take out all the BS with how attributes work on pets and levels. Lets just say Pets come out at level 20, and have decent stats. How the hell do we justify them having similar stats to a thrall?

Getting a pet is as simple as running around naked and spamming E (or whatever the controller equivelent is) around cubs and then pick up a few. Then you take them and throw them in a pen with their favorite meat. One time out of 4 to one time out of 3 and you get a greater. Then you just have to level it.

Getting a thrall is quite a bit more involved. You need to find a named. If its not up, you need to kill until it is. Then you need to craft (or find a good weapon) and then you need to craft some armor.

Even when using Shadespiced meat, the animal is by far easier to get, en masse.

The trade off between pets and thralls was that pets had more damage and less armor (due to the lack thereof). But that won’t work now because if pets are squishier than thralls now… they’ll just die.

The idea I had to address the ease of getting pets was to introduce multiple tiers. Or rather one more tier. So you’d have something like wild, trained, and greater. Wild pets would be like T2 thralls in equivalence. These are the ones you find in the wild like you do now.

To get T3 equivalent Trained you need to find young versions of the animals in thrall camps.

To get T4 greater pets you need to find them in similar ways of T4 thralls, harder areas (maybe even find them in cages at the siege areas, or in cages in higher level purges). The effort for these are the same.

This would address the ease of use and newbie nature of obtaining pets. And allow them to be buffed up to be somewhat closer to thralls.

As a bonus thing I’d also like to see ‘T3’ pets use the greater skins. ‘T4’ actually be named pets (like how we have named thralls), and have unique looks and perks (like the named dogs).
