Another day... another bug

Tavern barkeeper just sits here doing tavern things when I come back to base. Nevermind the fact that the tavern is UPSTAIRS. That’s ok, he likes to just hang out down here in my main entryway acting like he’s barkeeping his imaginary tavern. Just completely random. Update, no update, server restart, no server restart… just randomly glitches out. … like nearly everything else in this game.

@Orkan

Can you do one favor for me?

If you happen to have a thrall pot in the area:

Check the bartender wretch and see if they’re hoarding food from the thrall pot, please.

If they are, I’ll file a bug report on it.

Barkeeper is just another thrall who can fall through foundations and ceilings. Still happens on legacy and on enhanced as well as it seems.

If the bartenders vacuuming thrall pots is still a thing this is also a leftover from legacy…

I guess that means it’s not new and already has been reported.

Thanks.

How am I to do that? I can’t get into a barkeeper inventory. Their interaction menu is completely different.

Look at them. Hold ‘E’ to bring up radial menu. Go to the backpack icon.

Come on man… really?

I know how it is SUPPOSED to work. … but I’m telling you it doesn’t. I’ve NEVER been able to interact with barkeepers that are actually on the tavern. Attempting to move the barkeeper is also completely glitched out.

The only way I can do anything with a barkeeper is to delete the tavern, so they are completely unassigned. Then SOMETIMES I can interact with them. The entire tavern system is a complete bug-ridden joke.

You don’t have to delete your tavern bar; Do this instead:

The only way I could interact with a barkeeper to access their inventory (if they’re already working at the bar); Is this way >

While near them. Press and Hold the “E” button until their wheel menu pops up.

Once that is up, Select the move and guard option and move them away from the bar into open space.

Once in open space, then you press and hold the E button again to access their inventory.

There you can see whether or not they’ve been “stealing” food from the thrall pot because as Far as I know, they’re not supposed to take anything from the thrall pot since they don’t have a list of preferred foods showing up anymore.

I found mine with a pile of different foods I had originally placed in the thrall pot for the workers and guards.

Since the wretch doesn’t eat, often any food they take will expire leaving your workers and guards vulnerable in combat without food to heal themselves.

It has happened in my Solo player game and also on our private server more than I realize and just today I seriously took note of it.

I’ll give it a go at some point… but as I said, that seems to only work part of the time. Then at times it also glitches out my entire tavern when I try to put him back on the bar.

Frankly, I’m so disgusted with this game and funcoms refusal to fix these insane bugs I’m thinking of uninstalling.

I know how frustrating it is. It took me some time to relearn a lot of stuff.

To put them back at the bar again when you use the move and guard option, just get in as close as you can to where they’ll (sort of) snap into their usual working spot. If anything, just make sure you can see the floor between yourself and where you want to place the bartender.

It’s finicky at best with placing them if you’re not close enough to where you want to put them back to work.

On that note:

Best of luck to you and I appreciate your help.

Thanks for the suggestions.

So because funcom won’t fix tavern thrall spawning INSIDE my foundations… I literally had to build a new tavern outside my base elsewhere because I was tired of running over their heads and getting thrown up in the air while running to my various benches.

During that move, I pulled my barkeepers, and just as you suspected… every one of them was completely FULL of gruel they robbed from the thrall pot. I emptied them, and right in front of me they started teleporting more gruel as I was watching their inventory.

I’ve had the same problem with guards and workers when they are originally placed above ground level on foundations or even ceiling tiles. But unlike your current problem, it seems to have been fixed in my circumstances. (I can only say “it seems”). I’ve haven’t seen it happen yet on this go around since the UE5 update. However, I believe you. I think the only way I’ve gotten around this is by building as close to ground level as possible. It’s been okay so far (mostly), but that really depends on where you are building.

I appreciate the trouble you went through to confirm what I suspected.

This is what I’ve experienced so far after making some adjustments and changes.

We’ve been experiencing the same thievery by the bartenders.

In my case this time, I moved the tavern away from the village at the Oasis of Nekhet and rebuilt a “traveling caravan” style tavern in the Relic Hunter City, near the prison where the merchants are.

NOTE: Build anywhere option enabled*

This should be considered “out of range” in relation to the location of the settlement. I know, it’s a pain in the nethers.

Here is the next strange thing:

I then moved my offending bartender to the new location (which is well out of range of the Oasis location). But to my surprise, this wretch was still stealing food from the very thrall pot back at the village. That is insane! So, I broke bond and deleted him, then confiscated the stolen food and his clothing I made for him to reserve it for the next bartender and restored the food taken back to the thrall pot.

Then another test and it happened again but without first assigning the new bartender to the tavern bench.

I went out and found a new bartender out at the Mounds of the Dead and had her follow me back. During that trip, I stopped through the village at the Oasis of Nekhet to set her up with her new clothing. It turned out to be a mistake to even pass through the village anywhere near that thrall pot. Because when I set her down even before placing her at her bartender post at the new location, I found her carrying food from the very thrall pot located back at the village. That shocked me enough to leave her standing there while I went back to the Oasis to check the thrall pot and sure enough, a quantity of food matching what she was carrying was missing. I broke bonds with her.

This is where it finally straghtened out:

I admin spawned a new bartender at the new location and checked his inventory. Nothing was there this time. So far, so good. I then set him in place to do his job and then waited till the next day to check him again. By the next day, this new bartender was still “clean”, and when I checked the thrall pot back at the village, all the contents were found to be in normal, unmolested quantities.

The problem seems to have been circumvented (but not resolved) so I’m still going to file a report on this.

So the only thing I can suggest for now is move the tavern out of range of the thrall pot location (if you can do that). See if that one does the same thing even at that distance. If it does, get rid of the bartender and find another.. but bring the new one directly to the new tavern location and avoid going anywhere near the thrall pot before setting them in place.

I realize this has got to be one hell of an inconvenience and pain in the neck, but for now it seems keeping a tavern well out of range of a thrall pot might prevent this from reoccurring. Ensuring no barkeeper takes from it is going to be tricky and might require a brand new barkeeper taken directly to the new location and avoid going anywhere near the thrall pot.

Last note and this is speculation:

I don’t know what purpose the bartender can serve as a follower, but I think if it can grab food from any source it passes by while during the trip together. It might mean something they say has some kind of special meaning. Such as when they first say; “I will serve you libations unending” when released from a cage. (not all of them say that). But it strikes me as a vague hint at what they maybe could do for us. However, I haven’t tried to test this idea. It might turn out to be a benefit to PVP and PVE players to loot foods from other bases that happen to have thrall pots.

I stuffed 1 stone in each inventory slot. No room for gruel. Seemed to fix things.

However, I really want a proper “dungeon” series of equipment/benches. When thralls bug out, I want to take them to the dungeon… beat them, whip them, let rats chew their feet, starve them, waterboard them, and then finally execute them in any way I want. You know, beheading, burning, stabbing and such. lol

I so am getting worn out by all the bugs. It would be nice to at least take it out on unruly thralls.

I hear you.

There are times I feel exactly the same way.

That forgotten (forsaken?) dungeon has some stuff, but I don’t believe it has nearly enough … “amenities”… to properly treat the disobedient.

I’ll give your method a try. That’s way more simple than the extravagant length I went to.

That is brilliant!

Guys, guys , relax , it’s not a theft. The dude is working extra hours and needs some extra food to sell , it’s not like he needs it for him self , he just takes care of our company, that’s all (:rofl::rofl:) .

Like @fx801p said this bug exists from day one of living settlements, the workaround is to fill the barkeeper inventory before you place him-her on duty. Or after, it makes no difference.

In all the time I’ve used LS, I never once thought to check that thievery and only just began realizing it no more than a couple of weeks ago.

Call me awakend.

I call you my friend  .

I didn’t learn it out of curiosity, neither because i am very “Scholastic” to what i do.

You know that in each update i recreate characters and often jump from server to server to play with people. So when this update arrived i remember @UNfun inviting me to his own server to play together. On the way to find shelter i released a barkeeper from a cage. I decided to make “the light to guide home” my own home . Before i know it i fixed a tavern and hired some thralls from it . Yet every single thrall was dressed in rags of fiber, so i went to the spider lair to bring some silk and give them something smoother to wear. On the effort to dress my barkeeper also i noticed that her inventory was full of food , every single slot  . So i removed the food and placed extra plates , mugs , chairs and tables  .

In the end if we won’t roleplay with bugs frustration will win and the game will be no more fun , ain’t it .

I wish one day we’ll get cross platforms and i’ll totally come to find you brother :sign_of_the_horns: .

Indeed. That was very clever thinking.

If and when they get around to setting up cross platform,

You and yours will be welcome on my server, brother.
