AoW character ambient light needs a server setting

Yup, the purpose is to just create a client-side visual effect.

And as such they could even put it in the gameplay settings and allow people to turn it on / off as they wish :man_shrugging: but maybe adding a global server setting to override that (just like with nudity and target lock stuff) would be nice for servers who want to forbid it, yes.

Didnā€™t try to deceptively imply that this highlight applied to other characters - thatā€™s why OP talks about ā€œself-illuminationā€. However, it is noticeably disruptive as it is, and a setting to control its intensity or toggle it on or off would be quite welcome.

I hope we will get to choose if we want it, which I donā€™t. I have always avoided moving about at night. Like the time it got dark, and I stood on a boulder until morning, somewhere between Wight and Wolf territory.

Agree on settings. Night raiding should come with some inherent risks and decision-making.

At night, you need to consider going dark and not seeing threats, having the option to try to hide in plain-ish sight, or whether to risk lighting up a torch and revealing yourself.

It goes on, but being sneaky should have some finesse.

As a heads up to the current live AoW version, the self-illumination did go through. However, OP has been updated with a ā€œReport-Receivedā€ tag, and so I am looking forward to the future updates, hopefully bringing greater improvements to the customization of our nighttime experience. Many thanks to Funcom for taking this up.
