Bug Description:
Base decayed 3 days after refreshing
Bug Reproduction:
Logged in to game on 11th Oct about 6am - was standing in what should have been my wheel base just to west of Westwall Prison in Sepermeru. Base had changed from decayed to abandoned on 8th October according to logs. I last refreshed that base on either Sat 4th or Sun 5th Oct. Fairly sure it was Sunday 5th. How are bases on full timers decaying in a few days?!
Did you confirm that you refreshed the base with a repair hammer?
Timers can sometimes take a little while to refresh, if you come and go too quickly, it might not refresh.
Did you check that it had maximum decay time with a repair hammer?
You said it was a wheel base, so I assume it was a smaller outpost. Maximum decay time is determined by the number and tier of building pieces used to make it. T1 pieces add very little to the maximum decay time, and if your wheel base only consisted of a sandstone platform with a wheel on top, it will likely decay in less than a day. You need around 100 T1 pieces to max out a normal decay timer (i.e. not holiday decay), while you only need a few T3 pieces to max out the timer.
I always have my repair hammer out when refreshing. It had the max timer. It always lasts week to week. Has done for many months. It’s a T3 2 storey structure with lots of extra details, not just a scrubby wheel base. This was not at all normal decay. Neither was the massive base I lost on SIptah last week in the exact same circumstances. Something is wrong.
Check your log to see if there was an unscheduled server restart on the day you last refreshed your base, or if there’s only a server start entry without a corresponding “server shutting down” or “server restarting” entry.
I had this happen a few days ago, too. I’m currently building my main base and traveling around a lot. I always refresh an outpost and my Siptah bases on Fridays.
I did this on that specific day, too. I always wait with the repair hammer until the decay timer jumps up.
After refreshing, I went back to the outpost and transported iron bars from there to my main base. Shortly thereafter, the server crashed and went offline. I tried it again a few hours later; it was back online, but I didn’t do anything else.
Four days later, on Tuesday, I wanted to continue building. I went to get the iron bars, and they weren’t there. I was confused. Then I went to the base, and it was gone. The log said “decayed.” I was 100% there, and since my iron bars were missing, I assume that the crash reset the server.
So, long story short, I believe a crash sometimes results in the latest backup being loaded.
Years ago, I had a similar case. Nothing decayed, but I moved 20 chests from A to B within the base. The next day, everything was reset.
It’s just a guess, but maybe you can find a hint in the log.
You enter, confirm with a hammer and exit. Then the server crashes without registering. And comes back 3 hours later but forgets you logged in. And the server considers you not to have logged in. The worst part is that you are not aware of this. When the day comes, it collapses.
The precaution to take is to log in twice a week instead of once. If you log in every four days instead of every seven days, this problem will disappear.
or checking “server status” every day to see if the server is down
Yep, I could, except that, as I said above, I’m pretty sure it was only 3 days - 5th Oct to 8th Oct - before it became abandoned. So maybe I need to log in every 2 days to be sure. Last time I logged in every 2 days, or every day, the game was actually fun to play and I WANTED to log in every day. It’s so busted now with all the thralls hiding in the foundations and other crap going on, I don’t want to log in every 2 days. Or 3. Or 4. And I have never lost a base to decay before in under 10 days in the 9600 hours I’ve racked up. Now it’s happened to 2 different bases in consecutive weekends. Something is wrong. Players should not have to log in every 2 or 3 or 4 days when the timers are meant to be 10 days.
