Yeah to add to that we have 3 distinct versions of the game that are separate to each other. PC (the original and base coding for the game) and the two major console separated ports, Xbox and PS. Those of us in age that remember they had mistiming that would happen as they release PC first and then try to get the console versions through qualification. This was a disaster as some versions were significantly behind (I keep bringing up the something like 4-6 months that the Xbox users were SOL in playing because of this or that snafu and there was a time where PS was OOS for a month…maybe 2). It was sometime in 2021 ( I think) that FC made the call that all three had to be ready at the day of launch and it’s been smooth sailing since.
I bring this up because the game has evolved to the point where the game delivery vehicles (steam, PS Store, Xbox Store) are no longer relevant to maintaining the unlocks for additional content (DLCs vs Bazaar and BP) and that FC now has the control. The only thing that the game delivery vehicles are doing is ensuring the actual cash is converted to CE money (crom coins). So with that, one would think it wouldn’t be that hard to create a situation where cross system play for a player could be allowed. The only issues I can see is …
- Regulatory compliance issues of FC storing personal data. I think Europe has a huge law about that and the requirements of a company to ensure the personal data is secured.
- DLC purchases may not be as easy since the systems are the one that maintained the purchases confirmation and going back and creating a FC database of all million + accounts would be a significant hurdle . Especially since the DLC’s are still managed my these hardware system providers.
