You’re right. FLS is built on top of PlayFab.

Eh, I wouldn’t say this is PlayFab’s fault. The client side of the game is always “enemy territory”. You can’t make a client-authoritative logic completely secure, you can only make your security harder to beat. That’s why important stuff is always server-authoritative.

As Brendan answered in the discussion you linked to, it’s a matter of risk tolerance. And from how Funcom restricts what you can do even when you’re online in order to protect their bottom line, I’d say their risk tolerance is extremely low when it comes to monetization.
