You know I appreciate your contributions @DeaconElie , but here @Taemien is right on the money.
Besides, he’s always been a good writer, so I don’t know what you are on about.
Everyone, maybe with a few exceptions, would like free quality stuff. Everyone knows the more we pay, the more we encourage them to produce expensive content. This has upsides and downsides, like most things in life. The downside is that not everyone will afford everything. That’s life in general. The upside is quality content being produced. This is where FUNCOM is failing, at least with console players. The game runs like crap on last generation consoles. I don’t mind paying, but I expect quality when we are talking about the present price range. And we’re not getting it. That’s my gripe.
The rest, you better forget about it. That boat has long sailed. The best you can do is supporting games that don’t use such monetization tactics (like BG3).
The thing is, the more profitable games are, the better they should be. That’s the point we need to keep hammering. Also, these monetization tactics are better than everyone having to pay 150 euros or 170 dlrs for a game. At least, with these monetization strategies, those who can pay support most of it. Those who can’t, can still enjoy a less decorated version of the game.
Not everyone can drive a Ferrari and dress Armani, right? If that leaves you miserable, you’ll be living in a world of pain if your pockets aren’t deep enough.
Let me tell you something from experience. The best things in life can’t be bought. The things that really matter, you don’t get with money. Money helps, but it doesn’t come without downsides, even if you are a trust fund bratt.
Enjoy what you have and let others enjoy their possessions, as long as they weren’t ill achieved. Most people who buy from the bazaar don’t gain their money from exploiting others. Those are a minority and they don’t even play videogames, with very few exceptions.
