From all the times then, even now, if i want to level up fast and easy i do a combination of things. I mostly live in jungle so apes can take really fast your thralls over 13. Then i fast travel to the hardest biome i wish to farm so both of my thralls will level up and i will gain something from this effort.
If however you have a base close to Sepermeru then you can do the run on the shattered springs since rocknoses are the same effective like apes.
If you live to the mount of dead then you don’t need to travel to other points, you have the barrow king, blue skeletons, kings niche, wolfs, many mobs that can be very efficient to your cause!
New Asgard, you have the black keep, gods claw passage, wolfs and bat caves.
Living in volcano you have multiple exits to lead your self to yetis, dragons, bat caves and blue giants.
In north jungle again you have a huge amount of spiders and locusts that they are pretty decent as well. Then you can always enter the sobeck cave or the passage.
It all comes down to your knowledge of your “neighborhood”, literally in everything! From farming items- nodes to lvl up fast your thralls. So only you will define how fast your thralls will lvl up, nobody else 
.
