It actually is.
In the right hands, bows are still incredibly OP. It just got harder to hit someone with all the rolling now. Also on consoles bows are basically nonexistent, because of how hard they are to handle with a controller.
They are still high damage and highly unreliable because of the “spray” when you move which you could reduce by putting points into Accuracy which does not exist anymore.
But the biggest offenders regarding the bow are still:
- 50% armor penetration arrows (mandibles + hollowbone) making heavy armor useless against bows
- craftable Khari bow that has more damage than legendaries
- rolling thrust interaction with arrows (also strong counter against heavy armor)
If they at least fix these 3, then we need to analyze and talk again if bows got hit too hard or are still overpowered compared to other weapons.

Okay, so let’s remove bows from the game because in “the right hands” it can be a good weapon
Let’s all just have spears and nothing else… heck… build the weapon into the players arms so they can’t equip anything else…
Making a weapon useful by only increasing its damage is just bad game design.
Poor javelin is still waiting for an animation overhaul.
Maces are still weird where the first light attack hit deals more damage than the first heavy attack hit.
2h hammers heavy attack is never seen in PvP because by the time it lands it’s attack-hit, I could’ve made a coffee and fully emptied the cup.
2h swords don’t have the “ooomph” in PvP because you get staggered by the nearest fly fart.
But it’s fine for the bow and 2h axe to delete you within 3 seconds in heavy armor.

Bumping a 10 month old post for this type of agenda is bad forum etiquette…
How interesting that the account who happened to “accidentally” bump this 10 month old thread is a brand new forum account…
They must have not found anything more interesting to post in, than an Age of Sorcery nerf thread…
If you think that bows are still the giant problem with this game, then you should probably start a new thread about it with the new information, since anything said before simply doesn’t apply…
Naa, it’s hopeless. Dennis does what he wants anyways with no consideration to actual data (in regards to PvP). In other words: it’s like talking to a wall.
They are unable to balance things. It would, if something actually happens, just end up in a total nerf, making bows useless.
I am still amused by the change that the further the arrow travels, the less damage it deals. And on the other hand they have a perk that increases damage when the arrow travels a longer distance
That is actually the fun part about bows: sniping someone from afar.
This company is just a joke and should stick to PVE/MMO games.

They’re very different distances though and have different mechanics.
However I did say even on their stream that this will mainly mess with PvE players where the bow was often nice for sniping very long range targets. PvP engagement distances are usually shorter than that, though not always I guess.
To put actual numbers on it, Dead Shot kicks in at 15 meters… while the new damage falloff threshold starts at 80 meters… so there’s quite a massive range within which dead shot can operate.
Also cool that they put these numbers into the game… not.
Same with weapon combo stage multipliers. And thrall base damage multipliers. And other useful stats.
Remembers me to Diablo 2 1.0:
“Slightly increased attack speed”

Or “Enhanced damage”

Or “Enhanced defense”

Strange: while the player can shoot at very long distances, the thralls start shooting from a distance of 28-30 meters. Even if the maximum attack range is set to 50 meters, the archer will not shoot and, if possible, will run to reduce the distance to 30 meters.
This is nonsense, because… Even simple, non-composite bows in ancient times were shot at significantly greater distances.
Do you know if there are mods that would increase the shooting distance of archers?

Haven´t seen it was that old. Just saw the date of the post before me. My apology.
But as Sir already said, this topic is not so outdated as you might think. Open up another post about the same or similar thing is not helpfull either.

The most OP weapon no one uses lol.

Yes. There are not many good bow players. The next time you play PvP you should try to master it. You have truly mastered it when you can delete your opponents within 3 seconds.

No offense
You know I consider you one of the more reasonable people arguing that side…
But… the above clip is kind of like… linking a pornhub video as “evidence” in a debate about overpopulation.

While I agree, 20|20|20 str|agi|vit it the majority of the meta, there absolutely are other viable builds for bow users, and heh, bomb users.
5|20|20|15 Str|agi|vit|Grit
20|20|20 agi|vit|Grit
Are also viable and can be built many different ways depending upon the gear. But you have to be good with bow to run them.
With khari helm, silent legion gloves, and kurak boots alongside the ranger stuff, you can even run 100 bombs along explosive arrows on a crappy bow and serpant arrows on a khari bow, still be under 50% weight - no encumbrance needed. I believe you are the guy who posted some fun videos of using bombs to pvp.
You can even run drunkard blade (a strength weapon) and obsidian sheild, both modified with paring blade to lower weight - and anyone who didn’t bring set pots can be stam’d out, then cut down. Admittedly, this is a bit trollish, but the element of suprise can do wonders. If not, pull out the bow.
Or you can easily get diseased spike from warmakers, some people don’t realize disease stops glutton. While disease ticks might not hit at the right time to fully stop glutton, it is a thing.
The additional armor from grit will put you in the 500 range and the additional stamina means your opponents have to have a horse or not miss with bow if you run away. Hopefully they don’t hit infinite stam while running glitch, lol.
Also, steel thewed does matter against great axe when in light armor. And light armor gives you 7 fast rolls.
Or you could just ride a rhino in there and horn him to death.
This one does owe a Mea Culpa.
Previous laughter aimed at those bemoaning bow use should be localized to consoles only. Having spent some time on a borrowed to PC to play around, the experience of playing twing twang is an entirely different animal.
While this one doesn’t think it’s the doom of the planet, it is definitely(combined with some very curious behavior on the part of Shields) something that might merit address. This one is not experienced enough to offer much in the way of solution other than supporting the restriction of rolling thrust to melee attacks and rebalancing the damage vs armour pen interaction.

Terrible example as no one pushes you. Things are different when a spear user doesn’t let you breath.

Okay, 6 archers vs 6 melee.
Guess who will win.
