BSoD right after hitting "Launch" from the launcher

Basic Info:

Platform: Steam
Issue Type: Crash
Game Mode: Online Official
Server Type: PvP
Map: Exiled Lands
Server Name: None
Mods: None

Bug Description:

BSoD as soon as I hit Launch from the Funcom Launcher. I’ve tried many troubleshooting steps including uninstalling and reinstalling the game, moving the game to a different drive, running as admin, nothing is working. I’ve also checked that my video card “ASUS ROG 4080” drivers are all 100% up to date, I’ve made sure windows 11 is 100% updated as well.

PC Specs:
Processor: Intel i9 13900k processor
Video Card: ASUS ROG 4080 Card
Motherboard: ASUS ROG Z790
Ram - 64gb DDR5 6400 G. Skill Trident
PSU - Corsair HX 1000i 1000 w ATX 12v

Bug Reproduction:

It happens every time I hit Launch or Continue from the Funcom Launcher.

does it load the game if you navigate to the conansandbox.exe and open the game directly, bypassing the launcher?

My guess is that you have your processor, ram and possibly even your video card over clocked. An OC can seem stable right up until it crashes, and often what triggers the crash is opening a seemingly innocent app. Certain games are very sensitive to OC’d hardware. If your system is OC’d, I’d recommend resetting the bios to default settings and try running the game again.

BTW ~ Welcome to the forum! :+1:

It does not, same issue BSoD.

I’m sorry if you didn’t want anyone to ‘guess’ what your problem is, but just so you know, that’s what troubleshooting is. Troubleshooting is literally making guesses based on the limited data available and following it up with testing which leads to further, more educated guesses, and eventually, a solution.

Based on the hardware you listed, I guessed your system was overclocked because you spent a lot of extra money to get that hardware, and the only real benefit for that money spent, is that it allows hobbyists the ability to OC their systems. Furthermore, you flat out told us that your RAM is overclocked when you listed it’s speed at 6400. This is only achieved when you apply an ‘Extreme Memory Profile’ (XMP) in the bios.

A ‘Blue Screen of Death’ (BSoD) is a full system failure at the Windows kernel level due to a hardware failure. This failure is sometimes caused by incorrect or out of date drivers, but since you mentioned that all your drivers are up to date, I decided to take you at your word. Although, now that I’m re-reading your comment, you only mentioned checking your video drivers, so you might want to check your chipset drivers as well.

You posted this as a bug report, but just so I’m clear, this is not a bug. The error you’re receiving has nothing to do with Funcom or the game and it’s limited to just you (or others that are suffering similar hardware problems). It’s not usually wise to get upset at people that are trying to help, nor is it helpful to vent your frustration toward Funcom. Try focusing on your problem and perhaps you will work through it.

If I were you, I would search the manufacturer’s website for a bios update and while you’re there, grab the latest chipset drivers for your MoBo. Also deactivate the XMP in bios, in fact, like I originally suggested, it’s best to reset the bios to default when troubleshooting.

Lastly, don’t worry, I’m done ‘guessing’ what your problem is or how to fix it for you. Best of luck.

Memory OC can brick the game, happened with me 2 times.

So to the OP: don’t be a dick, it is very possible, that even the normal XMP settings are causing problems. Try with default, then increase the ram speed, and lower the timings for yourself until it’s fine.
Memtests, stresstests can pass without a single error, but when it comes to CE, even the otherwise atom stable memory settings can bring this game to its knees.

More guessing from you I see, assuming that it’s hardware releated.

Well good news, it wasnt. It’s software related “shocking I know, especially since fail com has such an outstanding reputation for stable platforoms and games”. It was from trying to start the game with the Valve index VR software not completely closed out. I put my VR software on a different SSD than my steam folder and it fixed it.

Fail com has their reputation and it’s nickname for a reason.
