Bug Enhanced Severe Unplayable --Corrupted Keys, Can't Exit, Mouseover/hotspots wrong, Repeatable--Co-Op Only!

EDIT: I have found that the bug happens only after an Co-Op invitation(see below)

I have a repeatable bug, which the game must be terminated abnormally, using the ALT/Tab and task manager, or rebooted.

I use my numeric keypad, and Conan/Enhanced has a bug, where, if I press keyboard [ENTER], the screen changes modes to windowed, and then the resolution and aspect ration settings are corrupted, and usually are my keys.

Edit: Also the mouse-over and hotspots are in the wrong location in the menus.
Game files integrity is fine.

It would probably be worth reporting this to helpshift - that’s the new place for CEE bug reports so that the devs get to see them more quickly - Contact Us — Conan Exiles Help Center

There are other input bugs.
The mouse-over and hotspots are wrong in the menus.
I have to aim lower for some menu-items.
I verified all the files, are okay.

I noticed something new: Even though the screen resolution matches my monitor, there is a black border at the bottom of the screen–both in-game, and at the loading screen.

I had disabled Steam’s overlay to make sure that wasn’t the problem. I reenabled it to make sure that the ALT-Tabbing we need to do to invite a friend wasn’t also causing the problem’.

Also, I cannot take a screenshot.
At this point, I hope that reinstalling the game helps. I have backed up our game files.
Sigh.

I backed up our games, wiped all the config folders, reinstalled, which check the integrity. We tried it with no mods active.

So, the fresh install temporarily fixed the video problem, BUT it came back, as in repeatable.
Squashed low resolution video–or Windowed–or black bar at the bottom.
Menus not working, or working badly.
Cannot exit game, but sometimes can get the task manager up, for an orderly reboot.

Other notes. I have noticed a problem, perhaps with Steam, in that if the Overlay is activated, when setting a key in Conan, an ALT key will be inserted–while setting Conan!?

Also, noticing: friend can no longer connect to my game, after several attempts, on a clean game install, with no mods. No, we are in Silicon Valley here, so we aren’t using soup-cans and string for connecting.

Conan Enhanced has been very difficult to invite a friend to a game. Also nothing, we were never able to get auto-connect going on a Co-Op game.

Now, it’s difficult at ALT-TAB to invite.
Steam Overlay seems to affect Conan.

HOW ARE WE SUPPOSED TO PLAY CO-OP?!

AMD 3900x, 64GB RAM, MEM386 Tested.
Updated Windows 11.
RTX 4070, recent drivers.
Machine otherwise runs like a clock and has done rendering and CFD.

Given that you’ve got the RAM, (which to my understanding is a primary bottleneck on such things) maybe worth running a dedicated server on one of your machines? You can still run the client o the same machine and the other one of you can potentially connect with fewer problems (plus you get the benefit of not having to deal with the co-op tether). See this thread for more details.

I only have 2 Windows machines; the other is a laptop.
I find the instructions on setting up and maintaining a Linux Conan server–daunting, especially with mods changing so much.

It worked with Co-op before. There was tethering, but at least it worked.

Thank you for the reply.

For a test, I shut off Steam Overlay, Wiped out my configs. I reset all of my keys.

It ran for a few minutes, and I even managed to invite a friend to the game.

THEN, I needed to set one more key, and when I set the NUMPAD * for use, it was misinterpreted as ALT-* in the menu.

Acting on a hunch, I pressed the numpad enter, the window bug happened.

At this point, Conan Exhiles is unplayable for me.

A long time ago, Conan had problems with keybinds, perhaps there was a regression.

I saw something that it might be a Sticky-Key issue, but it seems not that.

Oddly, I managed to get the game going once or twice, but sometimes, the act of a co-op game or alt-tabbing to do the invitation is part of the problem.

Could UE5 be incompatible with Steam?

Conan Exiles Enhanced is unreliable and unplayable for me.
I am very disappointed. : (
Please patch this.

Interestingly, when the bug happens, my video settings are wiped out, and it goes back to 1920x1080 windowed.

When the bug happens it always goes to windowed.

Please fix this!

For Science! :

I made sure that Steam Overlay is off, to see if that was the problem.
I booted up the game, did some moving around, using the numpad, worked.
I did 3 ALT-TAB’s and messed with the desktop, still worked.
I invited my friend–Tapped a the same numerical-keyboard key I used before-- BANG!
V-Squashed Low-Resolution Video, as seen in the picture. The screenshot did not work.

NOTE: This repeatable system-locking bug is caused by a Co-Op invite!
Please fix this.

Oddly, I just got my Member privileges.

Sigh. No mention of this bug in the update. I guess it’s a bit early, but the game is unplayable in Co-Op.

I tried it with the latest patch. The bug still exists.
I was able to host my friend in co-op, but then ALT-TAB’ing to start a voice chat caused the bug.

Part of the bug is very consistent: In that the game becomes windowed, and attempts to make it fullscreen will lock the GUI.

Folks, we need to be able to ALT-TAB to the desktop. This is a repeatable and severe bug. I am sometimes not able to raise the Task-Manager to bring the computer down clean.

Curious, are you able to successfully add your friend to clan?
