About 6-months ago, I noticed that when I destroy sandstone building tiles (either foundation pieces or ceiling tiles) that other unrelated pieces in the same building will be destroyed as well. (Please note that I have played this game for over 1-year and am considered a master builder by many – I understand how structure points work and this is not related to the intended way that structure points work.)
Here’s some recent examples:
-
I placed 6 sandstone foundation wedges on the ground, forming a hexagon. If I destroy one of those wedges, sometimes an adjacent wedge will also be destroyed. (Note: this happens even though I am targeting the exact center of the tile). A couple weeks ago I built a large 5-ring circle on the ground, and later decided to destroy it. When I would destroy the pieces, other random foundation blocks and wedges on other areas of the “circle” would also be destroyed when I was destroying pieces. (In fact, its rarely adjacent pieces that get destroyed).

As a bridge builder who like to build bridges that are 8-tiles in span between pillars, I basically lay down a line of foundation blocks and tiles on the ground and then build up to my desired height. Here’s what happened yesterday and the steps I took to get there.
i) I built a 4-block high foundation made of square sandstone foundations.
ii) From the bottom of that column, I then extended out ceiling tiles, and intermittently placed foundation block every 3 to 4 ceiling tiles, and then repeated the process down the line.
iii) Under every 9th building piece (which I make sure is a ceiling tile) I place a pillar underneath the tile, and then placed 3 pillars on top.
iv) After completing my row of pillars spaced 8 tiles apart, then I stared at the top of column of sandstone foundations, and began placing ceiling tiles outwards, forming a bridge deck that uses all the pillars as foundations.
v ) After completing the bridge deck then I wait about 10 minutes just to ensure adequate time for any delayed “attachment calculations”.
vi) I then went back to the ground and began destroying unwanted ceiling tiles and foundations at the bottom – leaving on the pillars below.
vii) Randomly, when I destroy these pieces, sandstone tile pieces on the bridge deck above will usually be destroyed as well (any where from 1 to 4). Sometimes the top pillar in the column of 4 pillars will be destroyed. In yesterday’s bridge, the column of 4 sandstone blocks, the top 3 foundation blocks were destroyed when I destroyed one of the ceiling tiles extended out from the bottom of it.
As I mentioned, I’m an experienced builder and have built bridges in the past linking the ENTIRE map. None of these issues ever happened in the past. It was about 6-months ago when I noticed this occurring (maybe longer).
For any complicated structure I still use sandstone as my “rough draft”. The issue above happens regardless of the structure (not just bridges). I have not noticed this issue with all other building piece types (T2 & T3 pieces), however I do not do a lot of excessive destruction with T2 and T3 pieces. (I did destroy my entire black ice keep, piece by piece though, and did not notice this issue.)
(I have noted this to be a major issue due to the length of time this has been an issue, and because it greatly affects the user play experience for new players (and us veterans). To watch an entire side of your house collapse because you remove a tile on the other side of your house would be very frustrating/confusing for new players and might detract from them continuing to play the game).
