So, I’m at work at the time of writing this, so i cannot do the science for myself right now. I know I can upgrade from one building teir to another by just applying the new type over the old, like a nemedian peice over a sandstone for example. However, I was wondering if I were to say, change from nemedian to arena, if it would consume additional materials or not. Since the styles are both top teir, would there be additional costs to swap them?

No, as far as I know. You need enough materials to make 1 (so if you’re upgrading a tier 3 foundation to a different tier 3 foundation you need enough materials to basically create a new foundation) but it then refunds what you replaced. So you give and get in one click each time and should end with the same number of materials as long as they all cost the same amount.
Typed out it sounds more confusing, lol. It’s basically just saving you a click of deleting and replacing and doing it all in one step instead.
