I’ve seen database transfer and recovery processes go terribly, terribly wrong. Even databases that are a lot simpler than Conan Exiles. Fixing those failures has taken weeks, even months of time (during which the operation of the database is limited) and cost a lot of money.
I know how to copy-paste a column from an Excel sheet, too. But I don’t let that bloat my Dunning-Kruger effect enough to start telling Funcom how they should’ve been able to create a thrall recovery tool in a reasonable time frame that wouldn’t necessitate taking all servers offline for days or weeks.
