Can we have some information on updating our private servers?

Hey Groovers,

Just wondering if you wouldn’t mind making an official post about any requirements for server owners? I host a private server on my own hardware and would like to know sooner rather than later if I need to get online and purchase better gear :slight_smile:

Should it run fine on hardware that currently runs the UE4 version fine?

I was also wondering about Private Servers. Will my private server automatically update to the new UE5 version after the 5th or will there be a new server version released.

@Dana

I find it a bit odd that no one’s really talking about this.

Is there a Discord, subreddit, or any community where private server admins are actually discussing how to handle this transition?

Or is everyone just in “wait and see” mode and planning to figure it out after the fact?

The guy who does the Private Server App posted an update:

That’s my plan. I shut down my server this morning, backed up the old game files, and removed all mods. Will bring it up later this week and start a fresh vanilla playthrough. Not planning on mods until the modding scene has had enough time to digest the new devkit.

Maybe this: “Admins United discord server” is what I’m looking for. Is it public?

My server is vanilla and has been running for a few years now without ever doing a wipe. It’s a pretty chill PvE server with a small player base.

My thinking is: if official servers are expected to carry over without a wipe, maybe I can do the same.

That’s why I’m trying to figure out if there’s anything I can do proactively (beyond backups, obviously) to improve the chances of a smooth transition.

Admins United is public, and recommended. A lot of really smart folks there who are willing to help out with troubleshooting and questions. Also, someone from Inflexion has been present, passing along info regarding the update.

As far as carry over goes, from what I understand CE:E is supposed to be able to read and interact with Legacy just fine. So, with backups, you might be ok. It’s just me and my wife on our server, so I opted for the no mess no fuss approach of a full wipe and clean start.
