Can we Please get a Compass In Conan Exiles!

I play 80% modded and not because i dislike playing, but only because my limited gaming time enjoys good QoL mods. One of them being Hosav’s Ui mod, since i started using the mod( no trolling) i do not remember of opening the map for anything else then to check some of my bookmarks. Using his minimap and having a decent experience on Exiled Lands Made the “Map” obsolete for me.

Which path would you take? The easy and rewarding one, or the hard and dry one? :money_mouth_face:

Only makes me wonder why modders still aren’t on Funcom’s payroll…Seeing how active Multigun is in here and Overall in Conan Exiles. Seen someone mentioning why Funcom does/has not yet implemented some of the Mods into the game itself as QoL updates.

I welcome any good QoL coming to this game.

PS: I need to mention here our ever growing modding community. Thank you again for rewarding us with so many NEW and interesting ways to play Conan Exiles.

I don’t want to troll, but I don’t miss a compass or minimap, so at least make it optional. I personally have no problem remembering visual landmarks like in real life. On the 1 hand having “survival aspects” ingame (which are in my eyes senseless as they have no heavy impact, are just annoying, and so a useless component) and then on the other hand comfort functions to autonavi is inconsistent.

I only want to show that there are also players like me which like the immersion of navigating by sight, not spoken about performance losses of active scanning minimaps. So if you do it, make it optional please.

Coty, honestly, this game has much bigger issues like massive performance problems and many others. Comfort options are the least. And your post reads between the lines like a blackmail to give someone a job. I think that this jobgiving nepotism has happened in the past, so too many people just do what they like, program “their” little thing while general performance and AI is unspeakable bad beyond believe.

And on your question
“Which path would you take? The easy and rewarding one, or the hard and dry one?”

I answer I take the path which makes fun. 5x server make me no fun cause I get to lvl 60 with no effort and it feels void. So it depends on people what is rewarding, it is not black/white; rewarding/nonrewarding dry.
It is a greyzone. If you get the best armor at level 1 thrown after you and level to level 60 in 5 minutes it is easy and non-dry, but also not rewarding in any way.

Your post with this black-white talking together with your urgent suggestion to give someone a job reads really like a blackmail behind the lines. I really think that this form of pressure was made on the company earlier leading to this situation where people program what they like, not what is necessary.

The state of the game makes me think that there are too MANY people involved with their own visions working against each other, not for a big purpose, so better it would be if they fire some guys and try to compress the code to a smooth functioning performant code, instead of do more cancerous functions nd functions and functions with more and more “visoneers”.

I Made no demand, just stated that i welcome any QoL implementations. If the dev Team FOCUS is in the easy and fast section of “New Content” is not my and a nor should be of the players that suggest or would like to have a QoL system implemented, compass being one of them in this case.

Pity their focus is on new content while the basic layer breaks meanwhile. And why they invented the wheel anew with Siptah and felt that a square is in reality the best form for a wheel instead of the old round form (this is a metapher) i really don’t know. While they do so people often can’t connect, the system is buggy, performance is hell, and cheaters and game trolls are all the way everywhere doing what they want.Least thing which is so very important is atm a compass, as it is implemented by mods you don’t need it in the code. They should work on the basics, this game feels like EA, sorry it left EA state and developers might think it is finished. That would be a big mistake.

I don’t understand where you’re going with this??

As I already stated I don’t think a survival game should have the same QoL stuff you’d expect of other types of games.

half your post is really weirdly worded, but do you really think new content is the fast and easy compared to adding a compass or minimap???

Easy and rewarding. I am refering to “New content” vs Cash in. In this case “New Content” transforms into cheap reskins, system remakes that do not require remaking and sell them as dlc’s. In this case Funcom is receiving a decent amount of money for almost no work.

Hard and dry. I am refering to “New content” vs Cash in. In this case “New Content” transforms into City Life system, Sorcery, Decent AI behaviour ( things which Joel Bylos says on his “hype” video). These are 3 things that Pass my mind right now, things which would also require a longer period of time(years) to achieve. In this case the cash in for Funcom is almost null.

So yes, when the only thing that can bring Funcom some income are These infamous QoL, reskins, anything that can be done within months is a steady income for Funcom.

I reached the point with this game where any Addition is welcomed. I do not care anymore what Funcom Offers us, because a modder already achieved that before Funcom.

Edit… forgot to add The Purge and Sandstorm to the hard to achieve section…

I still don’t get your point?

The things you mention aren’t QoL …

What does sorcery have to do with a compass?

Also there is teleportation, necromancy and stuff… Conan lore doesn’t have fireballs and magic missiles… But you can get it with mods if you want

It was just an example between a long Term development Feature and a “10 Minutes” feature.

Are you really that hardheaded?

At this point any Addition to the game, bring QoL or a NEW feature/system are welcomed to the game.

By all means i do not say that the devs should focus in adding NEW stuff to the game when some players cannot even start the game, or crashing After 20-30 Minutes…

Afterall, if you do not get my point, then you have no ideea in what world you are living currently, where all is about Getting money, lots of it and fast.

I heard this quite often over the past 12 years. Still, there is plenty of magic in Age of Conan.

Compass ftw

Chill dude… but tbh some of the stuff you write is all mixed up…

You want QoL… I don’t think a survival game should have a lot of QoL. It’s a difference of opinion and it’s waste of time to keep discussing the same thing over and over.

Especially when you think getting personal is a wise idea… chill.

And just because they got it wrong in one game, it doesn’t mean they should get it wrong in every game after it…

I get your point… you want QoL and new features… But the way you argue is nonsense

And all of a Sudden you Tell me to Chill. How you camed to that conclusion i do not know.
I am very chilled, so many people feel offended or Attacked while having a contradictory conversation.

And in regards to off, why all These mixed feelings? Well this has always been like this with Funcom. You do not know what to do, to thank them or to shame them…surely they achieved both sides.

Sometimes stuff gets mixed because of english not being my mother language, auto correct to German language and stuff like that.

All in all, i welcome anything coming to Conan Exiles as long as it is done properly, but if nothing NEW pops out i do not mind that at all. I Had to mention Sorcery and CityLife Systems because those have been mentioned by Joel Bylos in his 2017 GDC Video and i urge After a CityLife Update from Funcom.
I am one of the “We forgive but we do not forget”.

PS: Please don’t Tell me to Chill again, why would you do that? Made enough posts where i was really on the edge, this is not one of them. Plus that i do not know you, why should i be agressive to you?

I don’t take sh’t personal on some forum, but it wasn’t necessary… keep it civil…

But whatever. I spoke my opinion on a compass several times in this thread and I have no reason to keep discussing it.

If now is not the time to ask for a compass? When is? And that’s the thing, the state of the game is Funcom’s control, but to say people can’t suggest things because of the state of the game doesn’t seem right.

At some point they need to focus on making the game fun, because as it stands right now Siptah is not and gets stale within a few weeks. New Content isn’t the answer, fixing things/adding fun things is, all of course my opinion.

Well, I think we got the point, @Coty, you want a compass, and maybe for Siptah it is really an idea, as the landmarks aren’t as obvious as in exiles. Siptah is anyways a programmed Death of this game. Now they have two different systems and maps which are both bad. Only that the landscape on Siptah is also pretty dull and uninteresting. I don’t know whoever should buy new cosmetic stuff as it seems most of people left the game and it coulnd’t be that much of an income to program them. Maybe Funcom should do some real work now b4 it is too late?

I agree.

On EL, just find the volcano, it pretty much visible from every where. It is “north”.
On Siptah, the Maelstorm is center. Not hard at all.

Not even close to it. With the latest announcement this is a false assumption.

Go go compass

Maybe as something we can make (like some others have suggested) would be the way to go. But the compass wouldn’t be sitting on your UI, that wouldn’t make sense in the game I don’t think. It would perhaps be something you equip to hold then you look at it, or it gives a ghostly image of N or something similar. Then those that want it can make it and those that don’t don’t have to bother. Having it linked to any sort of perk does not make sense.

However the point is largely mute one as we already have this function in-game when we open our map. This is a survival game, hand-holding shouldn’t be encouraged, in fact the opposite.

As some others touched on, I too I think the map with our icon is a mistake. We could quite easily pick up some parchment and chalk (e.g. when we read those first notes/pick up the waterskin in the beginning) with a note from a previous exile saying they planned to use them to start filling out a map of their movements. From then on we would discover the map, just where we’ve been, fog of war style. But this is all a getting a little off-point I guess.

From the CE perspective since we have a map, yes some sort of compass would be convenient, maybe optional. Opening the map all the time to determine the direction is a bit tedious (and also creepy lol).

From the survival perspective no compass and no map is an amazing experience!

Learning to memorize trees rocks, sometimes looking back to see where you came from on a new map is an extra element aside from fighting and gathering. Getting lost in the woods because you ran from a predator, imho is an immersive feature, I love it! It is a good ingame-problem, because it is realistic!

But game-developers would have to care more for that kind of stuff if it comes to world-building. The technology is there, but it is complicated. The sky and shadows are just the beginning, having correct sun height, moon phases over the year would be amazing. Then wind directions and weather, with things like moss on trees growing leewards, directions of waves clouds, I could go on and on. If you ever had outdoor experience, you know what I mean, this stuff is very helpful for not getting lost, especially in unknown terrain. It´s pure survival! And then, when you learn all this and you know the environment it is a special feeling of power you get from it.
Right of now games only give a glimpse of that, but it is awesome!
Maybe we will get such games in the future, but for now lets not forget how unimmersive HUD is.
