The problem with raw numbers is two fold and hard to quantify.
- normalized per unit time. This is a biggy for me as my time is precious and far more valuable than some hidden melee multiplier increase of 0.02 difference nonsense. If I can place and level faster than any other thrall, then I’m good and find it far better than having the best of the best bs. With that, I got a t4 dancer and a t4 bearer who level in nearly half the time as these standard cheese thralls (SCT) and when armed properly do just fine. Plus I get a mule and entertainment to boot. So yeah take your rhts or berserker…I got better use and multifunction out of these others.
- fun Factor. Where does fun come into it? It took me some time to really understand this point but some of the less popular content providers have reminded me why I game…and it’s not using algebra and bean counting but about getting out there and having fun. I’m back collecting pets be a use of this. Why? Because they are significantly more fun than combat thralls.
Not that I don’t appreciate the work others do to quantify things, but anymore…I’m at the age where I just want to relax and enjoy the down time away from real life…IMHO just like loosing yourself in a good book. This is more important than getting the max whatever.

Again, this is all about context…
You play PvP… and a very unpopular style of it at that where you hide in bushes and don’t really have a proper base
So obviously the criteria based on what you choose thralls is going to be different than that of a PvE follower.
Especially since in PvP most thralls are a meaningless distraction and completely expendable, so when picking one up you KNOW it’s meant to die

That’s not entirely accurate anymore…They have beaten my resolve and the amount of exploits that are still active makes PVP in this game just an exercise in trolling vs competition.

The ceiling phasing was the last straw as far as exploits go.

I know how you feel about this… We’ve been mitigating it with at least 3 layers of foundations or palisades.
Correct. It would be a poor decision to give it to a thrall.
Ive found Telith’s lament to be one of the best thrall options but Im no expert.

My Dalinsia gets stuff done with a Black Ice Broadsword. Two-handed swords may be better against multiple human NPCs, though. Hyperarmor becomes much more valuable when the thrall is in danger of getting stagger-locked.
Curiously regarding the OP, giant spiders tend to be among the easier bosses, and I regularly take low-level thralls (level 7 or so) to train on them. I prefer daggers (poisoned if possible) so not sure how effective or not the Staff of Epemitreus would be in that fight, but the spider-things tend to die long before they can seriously threaten my thrall’s life. Full Authority with the Well-Trained perk all the time, and usually max Agility as well. I suspect the Predatory Blade may be one of the causes in the OP’s situation. Tvolm also doesn’t specify the exact nature of the latter thrall, who may have been a similarly statted one but with worse hidden modifiers (e.g. dancer compared to fighter).
