Eggs are one of the few things that seems like a no brainer to me. Farming them at least. If you have a pet or animal that lays eggs, you should be able to keep them in the pen (similar to a horse or other animal) and it should Produce…Eggs.
With the bazaar, this should be a great item to add. Maybe now you could even add a Chicken Coop?
If you go to the nort obelisk of jungle, it has lots of locust nests. If your base is close to the black galleon, it works the same, use your pick on the nests, you aint going to believe how many eggs a pick can farm from locust nests. @Tephra told me this sometime ago, and since then i farm eggs this way.
Still, i would love to have a bird kind in my pen and gain eggs and feather, but like @Jimbo said in the past, decay on eggs is an issue, so probably it’s not so easy.
Decay is an issue. 10 minute decay. The Reinforced Animal Pen has the highest decay reduction of anything less than a Preservation Box at 95%. Even at that, eggs would still decay in only three hours.
However, it is possible for a building to have a special decay rate for individual items. (Shell)Fish Traps do this for (shell)fish and Compost Heaps do this for Putrid Meat.
A specialized bird coop could have a 99% decay reduction on eggs. However, even though “cosmetic-only” is already being actively ignored in the bazaar, such a blatant disregard to the fictitious policy by putting something with such a unique function in there is not likely. It would need to be a base game addition, and then you’d have to ask if there is really a need for it.
As long as you can mine eggs, it is unneeded. Mining eggs is a pretty silly mechanic though, so replacing it wouldn’t be entirely objectionable.
