Yeah that have that right here too. Just as if you walk into a business, say a restaurant for example, and start cursing or making threats of violence using only words, they have the right to kick you out and ban you for life. They even have the right to call the police on you and have you arrested for disturbing the peace.
Disturbing the peace, also known as breach of the peace, is a criminal offense that occurs when a person engages in some form of unruly public behavior, such as fighting or causing unreasonable noise. When a person’s words or conduct jeopardizes another person’s right to peace and tranquility, that person may be charged with disturbing the peace.
What a lot of people seem to forget is that the Constitution, and the Government as a whole, have the responsibility to protect your rights. But they also have the responsibility to protect everyone else’s rights at the same time. A good analogy is that you have the right to swing your fist anywhere you want, but as soon as your fist touches another person you are now in violation of THEIR rights and thus when you are punished for this action your rights are not being violated, theirs are being protected. The same goes for freedom of speech. If you are standing on a public street and screaming about the end of time, as long as you are not directly stopping people from going about their business, you are free to do so. But as soon as you step onto private property to do so, be it someone’s driveway or a company’s parking lot, you have given up said right because you are now violating theirs.
So yes, in the US there is such a thing as freedom of speech. There are also very real limitations to that as well. Because your right to speak freely does not give you the right to violate anyone else’s rights in the process.
