Battle Eye closing MSI Afterburner

Long story short for people who don’t want to open link, but Funcom employees should read it. Why BE has permission to close any application? That is not written in their EULA. That is not what it was supposed to do. That is going outside of what BE was supposed to do. Collecting information and block application hooks except cheats is what these fake anti cheats are supposed to do.

Please provide a step-by-step process of how the bug can be reproduced. The more details you provide us with the easier it will be for us to find and fix the bug:

  1. Start game with Battle Eye
  2. Afterburner gets closed and in my case, it blocks auto fan speed
  3. GPU will reach 100C if I do not start Afterburner again and enable auto fan speed
  4. If thermal protection does not trigger, GPU dies

After discussion with one funcom employee who contacted BE, there is simple solution to this since BE is not blocking afterburner directly, it is actually shutting down API which is used by OC software to expose needed stuff for overclocking which is not included in AMD API as described here by Afterburner dev/creator.

Yes, BE knew about this for 6 months already which can be seen from the post by Unwinder (afterburner creator) and they still decided to close application silently. Completely malicious behavior by BE.

If you are using AMD card and you control fan speed with 3rd party software, especially if AMD drivers do not load vBIOS fan speed correctly, the solution is to switch from user mode (which uses MMIO that gets shut down by BE) to kernel mode.
