I’m planning to be out of town for 7 days twice this summer. And I’m worried about my buildings and chests.

Timers on officials are set to 240 hours or 10 days. Refresh before you go and then when you get home.

It also seems like at some point in the summer and winter we get extended timers.

logg in and just look at your buildings…if it gets rendered in, it is resettet.
Also, your thralls tend to exist longer than your buildings, which means if there is tuff that is super valuable, put it on thralls.

Hold on! Too many people get burned by this. Get close to each separate structure individually and read the decay time with your repair hammer. If it refreshed, it should show 239 hours and 59 minutes or 240. If not, wait till it flips. Sometimes, especially on busy servers, the building doesn’t register your presence to reset the timer.
Also note that decay of 240 hours is the max. Your structure can have less depending on what materials and what size it is. Usually it’s never an issue since most people build in t3 mats and have space enough for their benches but pay attention to any t1 outposts you have to see if they are 240 hour building or not.

Using the repair hammer is overkill…walking around your structure is all you need to do.
I have 2 elevators near my bases (viewing distance), which can be seen from my base and in 2 years, those have not had any issues, even If I don’t walk close to it every 10 days. Even the stairs at the bottom of one elevator (which I can’t even see) have not decayed in a year or so.

Umm ok. You do you but when offering advice to folks, remember you are responsible if you don’t share the risks. I have just yesterday had to wait 2 full minutes before one of my places reset.

Also depends on if all structures share the same snap point or not. If they don’t you’re right each building has to be done.
If the all share the same building snap point you only have to refresh one spot, and they will all rest their timers.

@erjoh is giving sound advice here. The unfortunate reality is that having builds/placeables on multiplayer servers will elicit many different experiences and outcomes. What works for you will not necessarily work for others.
@Hulk10 this might help if the decay timers don’t work for you when you leave.

From what I’ve seen, “timers” shouldn’t look plural. There was a change noted in the patches somewhere, I read, related to this. If you are connecting walls, foundations, doors, etc and all on one parcel then they should connect. Use the repair hammer to make sure “the one” timer gets reset to 240h.
