CtD followed by input lag on reboot when walking through the desert

Bug Description:

Strollin’ through the desert, randomly got a CtD followed by some strange input lag when I rebooted the game.

Bug Reproduction:

Walk from the center of the desert to the jungle and back, you’ll probably CtD somewhere past the canyon.

Addendum: It also seems to have duplicated some of my items and partially (albeit temporarily) corrupted some memory like a memory leak would. I now have too much tar.
