I wasnât going to post it
I love the Arcticstorm logo. It looks so⊠cool.
O_o
I know I drop this one a lot, but itâs the reason I quit the Dune discord, while fluid foundations was an every player issue, there were half a dozen various funcom reps on there having a heated debate over pineapple on pizza.
So ya, I see that as pretty accurate.
Missing one key statistic - 99% would like the game to f*cking functionâŠ
(Donât ask me what the other 1% want - I donât understand those people )
I usually like VLDL, especially their âEpic NPC Manâ stuff, but this was a bit weird. I get that theyâre poking fun at players and studios alike, but I just didnât enjoy it. Rather than chuckling at the stereotypes or going âha ha, itâs funny because itâs trueâ, I identified with Adamâs character, the lone dev trying to get through this meeting without surrendering his sanity.
In fact, the more I think about this skit, the more it resonates with the current situation with Conan Exiles.
Yep. But the thing is that you got to laugh at these types of things because your only other choice is to cry. Itâs like trying to grab water. You can try all you want but the water will just squish out of your hand. The only solution is to not grab at all and cup your hand. Change your perception, and the solution becomes apparent.
Except Iâm not convinced Adamâs character is still allowed in the meetings, and Iâm fairly sure theyâre busy claiming that ânothing can be done, because the players wonât agree with each otherâ (new intern) - except that players are fairly well agreed on the most important points (like the game needing to function and people be able to play), itâs just those messages are being ignored.
Oh no. Heâs there. Heâs been beaten down long enough that his will against these alpha business types has been broken. He played this part beautifully. I have witnessed too many of these tech guys in these meetings that are EXACTLY like this. I pride myself on the ability to speak alpha business because I firmly believe long term value and revenue is achievable and quick buck streams only have a 5 year sustainability. Got to target two things. âmoney machinesâ and legacy plans.
Money machines get their head around a machine that cranks out cash. But like any machine, if you over stress it without investing in maintenance, it breaks. To maintain the cash flow, you keep it steady and maintained. You want more cash, get another machine to do it again.
Legacy is straight up an appeal to their ego. Most alpha business types have egos larger than their life expectancies and so appealing to their legacy to keep things running in a sustainable way is something that resonates with them. Their company continues as well as their name.
Right now, I canât find anything funny about managers making a devâs life difficult. I might get to laugh at these things in weeks, when my manager takes his time off. Or in a couple of weeks, when I take my holidays off and stop being overworked and stressed out.
He really, really did. Thatâs why I couldnât laugh.
Donât mind me, Iâm venting
The only solution
Is it still âwaterâ when it is frozen?
You have to laugh because crying doesnât help.

Its a bit of an inside joke. Lemme guess, was Ignasi one of those?
Not much of an âinside jokeâ when itâs been running for years and we (were) all in on it for a damn long time. But it does highlight Deaconâs point - Funcom staff at this point are so âbusyâ cracking old jokes on the Dune discord that they donât have time to even acknowledge all the threads from players that canât even log in to Conan Exiles - a game that is actually out and has paying customers.

Iâd argue they arenât on the clock.
There is no community manager
There are no forum moderators
we have been abandoned
Now there is Dune
And were sort of treated like
No, they arenât on the clock 24/7, nor are they expected to be. But it would be nice if they were on the clock occassionally, rather than completely ignoring the paying customers (that are funding the game whose discussion group they are having such fun in) who canât even play the game at all.

I canât speak for them, but something tells me that @DeaconElie and @DanQuixote arenât complaining about Funcom staff being human. I think the complaint has to do with the way the staff time has been allocated between different projects.
Itâs not about being on the clock 24/7, or about cracking jokes while theyâre on the clock. Itâs about not spending some of that time to deal with Conan Exiles.
That said, I think theyâre both barking up the wrong tree. If a CM hasnât been given anything to say to the Conan Exiles players, then we canât really expect them to make up stuff to say. Besides, itâs just a job to them. Itâs not like you can expect them to lose sleep over it and go bug the suits about it.
The management seems to have determined that the team can safely ignore whatever portion of Conan Exiles playerbase is experiencing difficulties, without jeopardizing Dune or Funcomâs bottom line. So thatâs what we get: silence on all channels.
Eventually, theyâll come back and theyâll âunveilâ what theyâve been âhard at workâ making âfor the playersâ, along with a bunch of assurances that they âappreciate usâ, that theyâve heard the feedback, that theyâve learned from it, and that this time things are going to be much better.
Either that, or theyâll come back to announce that Conan Exiles is finally being put out of its misery.
