Hi. I have a problem, after melting obsidian I want to go back to the volcano and after entering the portal I die right away.
I would like some advice on how to safely return the obsidian to the base. I play pve servers. Thank you
I had the same thing happen but I was just able to catch two npc’s flogging me before I died. It’s the old you’re body teleports before the game catches up so enemies nearby have a few seconds of free attacks whilst the game catches up. It’s killed me twice now. Volcano is actually gunna end up a no go zone for me till they patch a few things there. Fighters and archers are killing all other volcano npc’s, the gas mask seems to only work sometimes, I’ve had to unequio and equip a few times to get it to work, and the death portal.

Thank you for your response. What material do you replace your obsidian tools with?
I farmed up the black blood tools you get up north off the bat bosses in the caves. They give bonus survival and are really durable.

I am using a trick there but it doesn’t always work , so I will provide you some solutions too and good luck .
1 . shield . When you exit skelos you can walk to the door and hold shield up . It doesn’t work always but most of the times it does . Still it’s not safe to go alone , always a thrall is better to be with you . So the safe path to take a thrall without the fear that your thrall is going to die in lava is the dragons mouth entrance . The best thrall to take with you is a volcano thrall because they seem to react better than the others on the lava touch .
2 . To create in normal conditions 200 bars , is about 15 Min . So what you can do is kill the NPC’s before you enter , go fast and kill the ones that pray Infront of the forge , leave the steel and the obsidian and exit fast before the gate guardian NPC’s respawn . Wait and farm for 15 Min around the skelos entrance and after you kill the entrance NPC’s go fast inside , gain your obsidian bars and exit fast . It will take you about 30 min , but if you repeat it once every week you will always have more than enough obsidian . Don’t forget that the NPC’s around the skelos well drop more often obsidian weapons and tools that you can place them in the dismantle bench and gain more obsidian .
3. single player solution . Go alone and across the lava river fix a small outpost . Put a preservation box with lots of ice inside and a bedroll . Then go back to your base ,take a follower with you , enter again from the dragon mouth entrance and put him guarding in your post . After you exit and die , you will respawn on you post . Take some ice and potions that you already stored in you post , ask your follower to follow you and put him in the fight while you are gaining your loot back .Exit again from the dragons mouth and mission completed . Or you could just put your level 20 thrall at the volcano portal…or get a clan mate to guard the area while you get the bars.
IMHO, they just aren’t worth it. Star metal is close enough and far easier to get and repair.

I guess obsidian gives more crops though, which even with a few percent, given tens of thousands of stones, gives a significant bonus.
