Welcome to the forum . You have to be more exact here a bit. So you went in the skelos well, you did the dungeon and you died in the exit? Is this what you are saying here?
Or you died on the obelisk?

I instantly died at the obelisk after teleporting to volcano as I was trying to reach the white mountains to recover my loot.

What was the cause of death? Was it heatstroke? Also, were you in the loading screen a long time?

You cannot travel naked to the obelisk of volcano, especially in consoles we deal great delay on loading screen like @CodeMage mentioned and you die from over heating (heatstroke). Other than that, check your event log, it says the reason you died.
Another reason you may die is a volcano npc that was dragged by someone else there and this npc might attacked to your spawned toon and kill it.
