Game mode: Online private Type of issue: Bug Server type: [Enter one of the following: PvE]
**Region:**USA WEST COAST
Our decay is set for 180 hours
Some bases show 180 hours decay after reboot when the players have not been online for months.
Some bases show 180 hours DAYS after a reboot and the user has not been on line for months
yes i looked for the issue, if its already here somewhere please post the link and I will go there and whine instead
Please provide a step-by-step process of how the bug can be reproduced. The more details you provide us with the easier it will be for us to find and fix the bug:
go to a base where the user has been gone for weeks and press tab
read 180 hours
try to devise manual methods for tracking decay
get whined ( i had a stronger word there but the auto censor stopped it ) out when you delete a base for someone that hasn’t been on since thanksgiving and he returns as his base crumbles
Yes this is annoying with bases that are unused not decaying and the decay timer resetting after each server restart or crash and restart. I am a server admin and this bit about large builds decay times resetting makes our job difficult as we try to clear up resources for other players coming to our server. We try going a week without restarts to allow decay to clean up the unused bases but just as we are getting somewhere, the server crashes and all the decay times on large builds reset.
Skua, since you are on a private server, there are several admin moves that can be made. Note that this is a workaround, not addressing the bug. The first is to recheck all decay settings; you can actually look at them, but it takes an admin to change.
Secondly, you could do what I do on a dedicated private server (we turn off decay). Request that the players report the coordinates of abandoned structures on discord in the format shown here:
Note that I ask for the map grid and what to destroy also and we give the players an undetermined time-to-correct. We have a policy requiring a sign, dated within 2 weeks previous.
It’s working. I get enough reports to blow stuff up once a week and it keeps our no-decay server rubble-free
,HI hi thank you for your responses, we have requested that all structures have a sign out front with an edit date within the decay period. let you know how it works l
Skua, it works for us. The community gets involved on reporting and they all now know how to get the coords easily. We also have a decay time of 14 days on followers. All this stuff is quite visible on our discord, but if they choose not to join, they probably will not fit in with those who play regularly.
Notice the Fair Warning at the end; followers were still there, but no sign, the requirement for which is on the welcome screen. The followers indicated someone in the clan had been on within 14 days prior, so I usually give them a few weeks and try to catch them online before becoming Destructo
Simple enough for me, fair to all, takes maybe an hour.
Hey jim progress continues, we started announing on the 6th that we wanted signs, both on the discord and in global, we are visiting the bases of people tht don’t have them and putting up a 50 foundation tall spire in front of thier places because 4 foundations they claimed that they didn’t see it. We are pinning a nicely written note to the foundations asking them to put up a sign yadda yadda. I expect in 2 weeks when we start deleting ■■■■■ they are going to be upset. @Ignasi pretty please get the decay problem sussed?
After a week of announcing it in the discord and in world we have still 11? bases with no signs. We are putting 100 foundation tall towers in the front yard with a note, I guess if they don’t put up a sign by next weekend we assume they have not been inworld to see the tower
You are more lenient than I. The server owner has ~$4k US in his system and most players pass through and leave a lot more than footprints. Most do not join discord and participate with no one, adding zero to the community we have.
Users. Entitled. Ignoring the one simple rule we have.
Start with the destruction and send a message, both literally and in chat. A friendly reminder (every time I log in) that buildings are scheduled for destruction, listed on discord usually gets their attention. If not, it’s rather fun watching an entire base explode using BuildingDestroy.
I take rather perverse pleasure in the complaints when someone finds their building gone, responding with so sorry, no sign, did you miss that part on the welcome screen?.
If they can’t do something so simple you have no need for them on the server.
My server owner hates drama and i have to do things his way. On a plus side one of our biggest offenders timed out yesterday and the base got exploded today to my great satisfaction
Hi @Skua, we’re aware of a few issues regarding decay being refreshed unintentionally through server restart or player action and these are being looked into by the team.
