Dedicated Server Issue: Empty item bags dropped by NPCs

Game mode: Online official | Online private
Type of issue: Bug

When item bags are dropped, the contents attempt to merge with other item bags of the same type nearby (the game seems to make a distinction between player dropped item bags and bags dropped by containers, creatures etc). On dedicated servers if the destruction of a corpse (like an NPC) drops an item bag, and another item bag is nearby that wasn’t dropped specifically by a player, the contents are merged into the existing bag, but an empty loot bag is left where the bag was first dropped. This is commonly seen when many NPCs are killed and harvested for resources in proximity to each other.

Please provide a step-by-step process of how the bug can be reproduced.

  1. Play on a dedicated server and get a container like a Small Box ready in your inventory, and something to deposit into it.
  2. Spawn and kill any NPC that has items to loot when it dies.
  3. Place your Small Box near the body, insert any item, then Dismantle the Small Box to create an item bag on the ground. Don’t loot the item bag.
  4. Use any tool like a Pick or Skinning Knife to destroy the remains of the NPC. When it dies, an item bag will spawn, detect the other one nearby from your box, and merge contents with it. But it won’t disappear and an empty loot bag should result. It won’t go away if you try to loot it. The empty bag is stuck in the world until it expires.

p.s. Sorry for keeping you so busy, Ignasis. :stuck_out_tongue:
