Brother, the spike on german ww1 helmets was primarily intended to hold a horse hair plume. It had little to nothing to do with deflecting sabre strikes. You apparently have surface level knowledge of history and of this universe based purely from memes. You’re the type to think romans all wore red and used segmented iron armor the entire time. I’m fully aware that this universe is low fantasy. Not everything needs to be 100% “realistic”
The distinctive spike on the Pickelhaube was supposed to function as a blade tip. It was designed to deflect sword blows aimed at the head.

Obviously you know it all because you watched all the episodes on history channel.
I don’t want to argue over this or offend you but…
I had privilige to meet the veterans of both wars and read countless publications on the subject. Also the history was my main interest at high school and afterwards I had shit ton of history at college.
The horns were addidional protection for the head and also the animal horn was great at absorbing the impact as it was much softer than metal.
I don’t claim that horns were popular in middle ages in Europe but they had been used by civilizations throughout history.
And yes, Conan is barbaric themed low fantasy…
We all know these…
