Read my paragraph about Crystallized Blaze placement on Machine Tyrant. In the context of the group (and particularly the tank) knowing what they’re doing, placing persistent ground AoEs isn’t a problem.

Bombardment is always a problem. It’s like Cleanup. There is no guarantee that you have it up when you need it up Mainhand, not because of Cooldown, which is relative easy to manage but of shells.
And on offhand assuming you take Shell Salvage, OS and Bombardment plus Shell Salvage passive and bombardments passiv you are bound to either OS-Shell Salvage-Bombardment or Bombardment-OS-Shell Salvage (which kinda end up the same and ever tick of bombardment has to hit to get full expose coverage.
It’s basically fighting you…on more mobile bosses take it if you have to but if you got options consider those. It is by no means a bad skill but it’s a very clunky unreliable way to do the job.

Just to be clear: the discussion was only about shotgun offhand, not mainhand (it’s a thread about minmaxing…). As far as the thread goes, i’ve been mainly talking about optimal group buffs and debuffs usage, and showing simulations about meta DPS builds. I don’t know how much Bombardment and OS are a pain to use with a shotgun main build, but to be honest, i don’t care much in this context.

For a shotgun offhand, hitting OS and Bombardment on cooldown is not hard, nor is cleanup. You have some fun timings to pull off if you have both OS and Bombardment with Combat Reload, and i see this as something funky to play with for people who want to give it an extra effort that actually pays in the long run in terms of personal skill improvement, knowledge and always wanted group utility.

Finally, you do not need to get the full duration of Bombardment on a target for the elite to be already worth using. Each tick every 1.25s adds 3s to the Exposed duration, so with 3-4 ticks out of 7, you already cover what the mainstream abilities do as far as Exposed duration goes. Yes, there will be times where you’d miss uptime on Bombardment on some fights, but no, it does not mean Bombardment would suddenly become trash-tier, it is still the best way in the game to put Exposed with only 1 active ability usage and with no passive ability requirement. It’s a great example of an ability with what i’d call “high skill requirement, high reward” potential. Also, each time you miss a Bombardment placement, you should ask yourself what went wrong, and try to fix it in the future.

3 seconds times 3-4 gives you 9-12 second expose on an ability that has a 20 second cooldown. 7 times is 21 which is a little more than the cooldown leading to 100% uptime. Maybe if you have additional abilities or talismans at work you get 100% uptime but not on it’s own with 3-4 hits

I’m not sure you read my message and/or understood it properly. The other regular abilities that put Exposed put a 10s duration Exposed. You’re achieving the same effect with Bombardment after only 3 ticks. It’s a 1 to 1 ability comparison.
