Question. Why are these objectively worse than Serpentman Arrows. Especially given the relatively increased difficulty in creating them.
Dragonbone Arrows - You make ONE. And it’s WEAKER than Star metal and Serpentman.
Frost/Obsidian - Objectively weaker than star-metal and Serpentman counterparts.
May I ask why these particular arrows lack the status-debuff associated with their crafting origin? As in, why don’t Dragonbone arrows cause sunder, why don’t Obsidian arrows cause bleed, and why don’t frost arrows cause Frostbite.
And why are we still only creating ONE dragonbone arrow instead of 10?
Agreed. Given the hoops you have to jump through for these arrows they really should provide more benefit than they currently do. Generally I skip over them because they just aren’t worth it. It would be nice if there was a reason to actually craft them vs holding out for Star Metal. At the very least, you should get 5 per craft vs the ONE you get now. Baffling.
I agree too—especially since I remember a time when, for instance, elephant-bone arrows dealt more damage, and we used to specifically farm elephants (which was a tough task for us at level 30) just to get that bone. Now, it’s useless.
There was a time (once upon a time) when dragonbone arrows and dragonbone bows were the “rage” of end game hype. At the time, nothing was deadlier.
It should be no surprise they were nerfed. Much the same as it was with Grey Ones Bows as they also were nerfed. Looking over the whole setup, it seems kind of obvious they were all “equalized” in some way to “balance” things across both maps with favor given to the “legendaries” that were later introduced at the cost of repairability. Now, that repairability has changed.
But as to why we can still only craft one dragonbone arrow at a time is still a mystery to me.
The dragon bone arrow crafting rate has to be an oversight; it makes no sense.
If other arrows got some kind of use, that’d be welcome. Personally, I only use simple bone arrows found on enemies or voidforge arrows, because they have best ration of crafting materials to power in my opinion.
Creating ivory arrows, black ice arrows and so on are just too much hassle, because they are either not substantially more powerful or even worse.
Bleed, disease, range, fly speed - there’re enough variables to give each arrow type a reason to exist.
For example:
Obsidian arrows do less damage than starmetal, but add a stacking bleed.
Ivory arrows have low armor penetration, but increased fly speed.
Dragonbone arrows deal as much damage as obsidian, but add sunder (as DelRio suggested).
Hardened steel arrows have increased armor penetration.
And so on.
The fact that these other arrow types are so darned hard to craft and yet offer no advantages to Starmetal, I find troubling. I built my fortress in the Frost Giant valley and for me at least, Starmetal is so utterly easy to procure. Nobody on my server even cares about any other type of arrow and that is just sad. I agree with you folks that the other types need to be spiced up a bit. I think for what one has to go through to get the base materials, they should also be more easily crafted (more arrows per material).
