Fashion for a base

I have a house on a server known as Arrestia. I won’t lie, I’m kinda disappointed in it but at the same time I can’t deny its efficiency. I have at least 1 of every station, but does anyone have some advice to offer for someone who’s seriously inefficient with any kind of fashion sense?

First of all, there’s nothing wrong with a pragmatic approach, so it’s nothing to be ashamed of. We’re survivors first and foremost, maybe colonizers at best. Fashion and decorations come after we have our basic needs covered.

My “style” of decorating is kinda haphazard. I tend to loot decorations and pieces of furniture from NPC camps, take them home and see if I can get them to fit somewhere. If not, they go into the dismantling bench.

But that applies to my utility base. If I want to build something for the sake of beauty, I spend time looking for references (whether it’a a palace of a brothel I’m building) and inspiration, then try to figure out which building pieces and placeables would be the closest to what I want to achieve. I may doodle with an online geometric shapes tool to design the building’s footprint.

One possible approach would be to imagine what sort of people would live in the place you’re building. How would they build and furnish their place? If they live in a log cabin with a thatched roof, they’re unlikely to have gold and silks; and if they live in a Turanian style palace, they’re unlikely to have log benches and open torches. The various cultural DLC packs can help you with achieving a uniform, consistent style.

Since 2018 we have been building working fortresses.
When we were forced to switch servers I made a 1750 bar.
None of the other 45ers are playing anymore.
So we went back to making working bases.
