At the beaten castle of light area I can go to the Unenlightend area but the other choice (Forbidden City ?) I click on it and it doesnt let me move there. Am I missing something ? Do you get there later in the game?

yes, you gain admission to the Forbidden City only after you have finished the map The World Ender.
