FUNCOM, Do you Remember? Do You Hear Us!

If it was not for the Console Release of Conan Exiles, would Funcom have went out of Business?

That claim is largely accurate. Funcom was in a dire financial situation prior to Conan Exiles, and the console release was crucial for securing the company’s long-term survival and stability.

The success of Conan Exiles—which was supported heavily by its console audience—allowed Funcom to increase its team size and invest in new projects.

Without the successful, sustained revenue from Conan Exiles, particularly through the console market expansion, Funcom would likely not have been in a position to develop its later projects, such as Dune: Awakening. ^Sourced from Google Search^

Now I ask you Funcom, here we are in 2026, the Console Community has been more than Patient, more than Supportive, MORE THAN A LIFE SAVER, and your Response to us is “No More Updates, Maintenance Mode Indefinitely”? Dump the PS4 & Series S support, show the PS5 and Xbox One some love, we have been held back long enough, we deserve better than this, Conan Exiles was and still is Worth it to many of us, but this is a stab in the back.

to reverse my usual position and cut FC some slack. Would you want them to use their available resources to produce updates for consoles on UE4 or put them to use to look into the topic of a console port and make it happen, if it makes sense from their business perspective?

I understand that their resources for conan are not plenty and only a couple of weeks back, Dana returned, after a long period of not even having a community manager.

It is totally fair to ask for what you are asking for and don’t forget, epic and game pass users have it even worse, but let them do the update and wait what their decision for the future will be.

What i see now is a huge influx on the servers i play on and that is already a positive

Oh no no no, they’re also leaving the bazaar open for you guys so you can carry on supporting it! No?

New number. Who dis?

But no word if new content will even get there or will they just recycle old content over and over.

While it sounds like a silver lining, that almost feels worse knowing that customer service may be limited too… we’re only important when they need a few extra bucks… who knows if they’ll even act on our tickets.

based on the minimun specs POSTED in pc, and using AI , i asked if they could run on a console conan exiles enhanced (ue5) , this is the response

PS5: Yes. The PS5 can easily run UE5 open-world games. While it may not run at native 4K/60fps with all settings on “Epic,” it handles UE5 well using techniques like Virtual Shadow Maps and Nanite

PS4 / Xbox One: Unlikely/Poorly. While they might technically run a ported UE5 game, it would require massive scaling down. They lack hardware ray tracing and efficient Nanite support, leading to lower resolutions, lower frame rates, and missing graphical features

according to AI, using the minimun requirements for PC, only ps5 will be able to run it, neither xbox 1 / playstation 4 might not, due to techinical limitations. i think it will require a lot of work to have something working, and it might not run well. that is probably why.

ps5 i think most likely it will but not sure of the implication of supporting ps5 but not ps4

There is no easy way of putting this, but Funcom were fully acquired by Tencent in 2020:

Funcom, which was fully acquired by Tencent in 2020, operates as an independent subsidiary, giving them significant autonomy over creative and day-to-day operations, but Tencent increasingly directs high-level strategy. While Tencent generally takes a “hands-off” approach to creative development, they have become more assertive in financial, production, and hiring decisions to ensure project success, as reported in late 2025.

Key Aspects of Funcom’s Autonomy Under Tencent

  • Creative Freedom: Tencent’s stated approach is to avoid direct interference in the creative process, focusing instead on supporting studios to deliver high-quality gaming experiences.

  • Operational Independence: Funcom remains a separate entity with its own management team, retaining control over how to build their games.

  • Strategic Guidance & Pressure: Funcom has been guided to focus its resources on key, high-potential projects, such as Dune: Awakening, rather than spreading attention across too many titles.

  • Financial & Resource Control: Following the acquisition, Tencent has influenced decisions on restructuring and staffing to streamline operations, including layoffs in 2024/2025 to align with their strategic goals.

Developers (Funcom) cannot directly tell you exactly how this works because they are also under NDA.

So from a business viewpoint here is what likely happend, Funcom wants to further develop Conan exiles, they get a money bag from Tencent, but Tencent want their investment to be successful, and be profitable, porting a game like conan exiles from UE4 - UE5 is very expensive, so while they did get the green light, its highly likely with restrictions, meaning you get this money bag, steam is the platform where we have the highest chance of success right now, its still a gamble, so depending how well recieved the enhanced version of the game is, if its a huge success they are far more likely to then expand to consoles with the enhanced version, so this here is NOT funcom picking and chosing what customers gets the update and who dosent, very likely why they are wording it how they did, “not planned, but not out of the question”, it is a done deal (for now) porting the game for consoles will very likely take 6 months+, im not saying you can or cannot be fustrated about this, just think a little about it when you direct anger towards Funcom developers, they are just designing the game that we love, being an art worker or the audio guy, its a business with investors (that make the decisions)

I honestly and truely believe this will be a huge success, and with that success i bet you, that it will come for consoles aswell with time.

I and many others have wished, hoped, voiced in the Forums over the last 5+ years, far before 10 Cent Aquired them to leave the UE4 Version on Xbox SS & PS4 and give Mainly the PS5 and Xbone a current Gen Port/Upgrade/Version, it’s not Sony or MS’s fault, FC is FUGGIN LAZY. Funcom wanted that larger Market to milk, and milk it they did and in the process we’ve had to endure an abusive relationship with the game. I say “Endure” because it’s a Banger of a Game with a ■■■■ load of UE4 problems. Over 4,000 hours spanning the last 6 years for me personally and I run Clans, some of us just hoped for more, some of us are sick of being held back by FC sh!tting on the very community that aired up their tires when they went flat. I am aware of the issues with Epic etc. on PC and I’m sure it’s at the top of their priority list “if one exists”.

If this Enhanced Version came out “Console Exclusive” while Steam was left with the buggy UE4 Version in Maintenance mode, trust me, they’d be justifiably P!ssed off and I would not blame them. Stop Simpin for Funcom.

We just expected a better handshake from FC. By the way, “Their UE4 Legacy” Abandoned in Maintenance mode Version is still retailing @ $50.00. Treatment from now “Tencent” & Funcom on Console are still just as Atrocious as ever.

aparrently the only console able to run something like conan in ue5 is playstation 5, xbox with lots of sacrifices,. and not even possible to run on ps4.

i dont complaint when a console launch a game that is exclusive to consoles, such as the last of us.
expecting to have enhanced on ps4 is just … unrealistic. xbox1 not sure , how much it needs to be done, ps5 i bet it will come.

Apparently you do not. It was, in fact, the sales of early access that kept Funcom afloat. Did consoles have Early Access? Or was that, oh I don’t know, PC?

Now, the sales from Early Access is, as I pointed out, what kept Funcom afloat. They kept Funcom from closing their doors (aka going out of business). The sales at launch (which were opened up to Console Release) is what KEPT Funcom viable and able to continue being able to development going for the game. And for that Console sales are 100% just as much a massive factor as PC sales were. You are absolutely correct in that regard.

So to your main question at hand:

Who knows for sure, but I know who does.

So I had an interesting convo with AI over its analysis on open positions at both companies. So as FC lowers their tech presence Inflex. is hiring UE5 optimization folks. It’s starting to appear that Inflex is tencent’s Contract Game Design for UE5 and even conversations are showing FC speaking about getting help with Dune porting from an unnamed company.

I am more positive now that this getting ported to this gen consoles with caveats…1) the success of CEE as evidence Inflex can solve FC’s over complication problem of just layering code and hot fixes. 2) Dune Awakening releasing on console well. This would then mean that Inflexion can do the job and probably see release of CEE on console by June of next year.
