Why does the funcom launcher trying to access my webcam? Is that a prerequisite to get money from Tencent?
In all seriousness, I really would like to have an official reply, explaining why the conan launcher wants to access our webcams, i think that is totally unnecessary and doesn’t build trust in funcom, as this change appeared after the patch and i am not even asked if I consent.
Could that have legal implications?
clothes verification?
It doesn’t do that on my machine. Can you create a topic in the PC Updates and Bugs forum and provide more information there? It’s probably some weirdly-specific corner case, but the devs should still know about it.
Same here, it never asked and doesn’t have permission to access the camera. It may be due to something specific you tried to do, or an edge-case as mentioned.
Really? Explain please. . . .

How about we don’t go there?

I put my tinfoil hat on securely as a precaution, and tested on 2 machines. One has a camera attached in a VR headset (WIndows 8.1) and the other has a standard USB webcam (Windows 10). No request on either.
My friend also tested on her Omen laptop (Windows 10) which has an integrated webcam and she wasn’t asked for access to her webcam.
DId you grab a screen shot of the request?
Something like this (which I get from another application):

Hey Lan,
It might have to do with usb devices like mouse, keyboard, controller (unknown webcam).
This is an assumption based on my experience with other game launchers which wanted acces to my usb devices to see if I don’t cheat. Personally the Funcom launcher didn’t give me any trouble.
That is so weird. I also have Kaspersky and it’s showing nothing blocked ![]()
You should definitely raise it as a bug if you don’t mind (under PC Updates and Bugs) as it’s likely an unexpected behaviour or else it would probably be happening for everyone.
Edit - Just saw above the @CodeMage has already suggested the bug post, sorry ![]()
LOL it states the block was added manually. That means a user blocked it, not the software.
Nice try though.

You must have missed this:
lanier67 already stated he manually blocked the access.
Read about Kaspersky.
Read about Tencent.
Best imo:
Use a dedicated (ssd-isolated, anonymous)game system.
(aka - Do not game online on a home system.)
Aaaaand we went there ![]()
Kaspersky asked me if I want to allow it and I blocked it manually, but I said taht already.
Nice try though
I will raise it in the bug section, ofc.
But maybe it’s no big deal, as JJdancer seems to think i am making this up
What? Someone or some company wants access to my webcam? Alright but you asked for it… Here comes the fun cooker!
Kaspersky alerted me, that the funcom launcher is trying to access my webcam. There is no reason for it to do that and i blocked it, but Funcom should look into this.

Greetings everyone,
Thanks for bringing this matter to our attention. It was not intended and we will investigate it.
Please let us know if you find any other issue with the Launcher and we’ll look into it.
