Funcom, please do something about the difficulty

Few ideas to increase difficulty…

This is a bug and will likely be fixed at some point, but the buff that dancers give is broken. We all know this. Once you get the glitch that you have a constant health regen buff, it doesn’t matter what you face as you simply cannot die.

real changes…

  1. Changing two of the vitality perks. No more passive health regen. No more diminished weather effects. Change these two to food and water drain being slower. When you have passive health regen, even if the dancer issue didn’t exist, you can hop on a rock and wait til your health goes back up to go back to fight. When you have diminished weather effects, you can run around the entire map naked as frostbite and heatstroke do nothing.

  2. If you are sundered/crippled/bleeding, make it so you cannot run away, cannot climb and cannot jump on a rock. You either have to stay and finish the fight or try to walk away.

  3. Make some of the enemies faster than the human player. Obviously crocodiles and shalebacks won’t be faster than humans…ever. But hyenas and any of the dogs/cats should be way faster than a human. A Rhino in full out charge should be faster.

  4. Change the purge to whenever your bar maxes out and you return to base, the purge just happens. It’s not tied to what area of the map you’re in, it’s tied to your level. So if you’re 60 and on the South Beach, doesn’t matter, locusts/undead/lemurians could all attack your base.

  5. To get dragonbone/silent legion/black ice/kingslayer polearm/obsidian recipes you actually need to defeat the boss to acquire them. Not just run there naked, grab the recipe, die and respawn at base with the ability to craft them. You kill the beast and there can be an animation where the lorestone pops up to give you the recipe or it can just be in the beasts inventory when dead. The reptile armor from the abysmal remnant and tower of bats do the reward properly. All of them should. Why you can run through the Black Keep, naked and be able to grab the recipe for the best armor in the game and then just take your bracelet off right in front of the boss, baffles me.

These are just a few ideas that I think would increase the difficulty of the game but wouldn’t make it completely unforgiving and impossible.

Don’t mind him/her I’ve seen them post in another thread where they wanted to nerf the enemies because they’re apparently too strong lmao.

The most hilarious thing tough is they expecting to beat a world boss at low level.

As for the topic at hand, the main culprit of making the game easy is the Vitality attribute. With 30 points spent in it, you are essentially a god. Without any points, you got to be careful fighting multiple enemies. The AI is still incredibly dumb and last couple patches made them not use their shields. Something needs to be done to make the environment more dangerous as I’ve been running with light gear all game and fearing nothing.

If the game has more difficulty to the extent that our exiles will die many times easily, we will need a new game mechanic to get our stuffs back safely.

The Bedroll mechanic is already good so we can always update our custom spawn point when getting close to a place that can cause our exile’s death, but it’s still not enough, we have to be able to get close to our exile’s body as well to retrieve our belongings safely.

  1. First they have to remove the game mechanic where armors become heavier when in inventory than when being equipped in armor slots.

  2. Or implement “remember hotbar & armor setup” , so after we loot our body, whatever armors were equipped before death and whatever tools/weapon/items in whichever hotbar slots will remain in the same slots. That way we can immediately fight after looting our body back, not looking for a safe place to arrange hotbar first.

And here is the most important game mechanic for buying time and being safe approaching the body.

  1. Add MEDITATE/PRAY2GOD emote, after using pray2god/meditate emote, the character will make a praying/meditating pose and a timer will begin, after 30 seconds or 1 minute, the god will grant 15 seconds invisibility so we can approach our body safely without being aggro’ed. (to avoid this feature being abused, it only works when we only have less than 5 or 10% encumbrance)

With that I’m ready for any difficulty the game will have to offer as long as it’s not impossible.

I feel the game is too easy as well.

But this isn’t in how the PVE content is. Its about fine, server admins can adjust it by allowing NPCs to take less damage and deal more. All depending on the individual servers’ needs.

Where the ease manifests is how comfortable we can get. Setup just south of the Mounds of the Dead for example and you’re less than 5 minutes from Blackice, Brimstone, and myriad of different plants. You literally have no reason to go anywhere else.

Last time I started on a server. A buddy of mine and I had black ice structures by 30. And we leveled to 60 building a base out of it. We set up in the northern lake south of the MotD just north of the springs. I went to the jungle for the cosmetics of Lemurian Armor, not because of any real need.

This needs to be changed. There needs to be a reason to visit every biome. You should never be comfortable in a single area. Instead on a multiplayer setting you will have players and clans dominating a certain resource set and forcing others to compete/fight them for it or trading.

And then there needs to be a server-side setting to adjust temperature severity. Like the idea of a desert being easily comfortable with fur armor (cold resist) is a bit of a stretch. But at the same time, any biome requiring resistance should be worth while.

Here’s some of the changes I would do.

  1. First one as I said before, adjust recipes and spawn locations of resources so you need to visit other biome occasionally. Not just for weapons and armors, but for buildings as well.
  2. Adjust the biomes to have an easy and a hard version. The easy versions supply materials for Tier 2 structures and 20-50 equipment. Hard supplies Tier 3 and 55-60 equipment.
  3. Adjust thralls accordingly. So tier 1 and 2 would be found regularly in easy areas. Tier 3 and 4 more often in harder areas. But make the tiers the same. I don’t see why a Darfari Fighter III would be less effective than a Forgotten Tribe Fighter III. Especially if their respective areas are the same difficulty.

Do you not get how forums work? You post your opinions and other people post theirs in response. You complained that the game was too easy and people responded with ideas that would make it harder. Seems like you’re more interested in just kicking up a stink rather than getting the challenge you claim to seek,

No, they don’t need to fix it. Your opinion is entirely subjective and not representative of the playerbase as a whole. You’re free of course to make suggestions but this kind of petulant demand will get you nowhere.

I can say this because people here know I respect whatever playstyle gives one pleasure. If it’s too tough for some, it may be because they use RP weapons, or because like @Shadoza says, they place limiters on their gameplay to balance the system a bit.

Funcom’s version of Conan Exiles for launch is substantially easier than it was for Early Access. During EA, Conan Exiles was about as horrifying a survival game as you’d want. The heat system was once punishing. Now it’s weak tea.

I don’t say this out of disrespect, I say it as a notable element of game release. Nobody I know can hack this game casually. Try casual on a PVP server, and you’ll get lots of tears on your mouse pad. This game requires appropriate assumption, and immersion. Make it too hard and we’ll all be playing with ourselves once again.

To me, there are simple switches and values that can be changed. This will make the game a true survival game again. If I can gaze into Crom’s Celestial Mirror I see a temperature system based on zones and weather patterns; maybe I’m reading tea leaves or possibly it’s where Mods have already been. We do know the environment is evolving as are its systems – once we achieve balance it’ll be much more than it is now. PVP servers are petri dishes hewn of candy glass. Your time there now is finite and crystalline. Glad you’re using it so well.

The games difficulty was much better before. I have no idea why they changed it so much for release. Do you enjoy playing a game where the boss in a level 60 dungeon hits you for 5 damage? All the best recipes is available without any effort because the content is too easy? I don’t understand the mindset of the community if they are happy with the current state of the game. I have been here since 31. january 2017 and when it comes down to difficulty the game was much better last year. Now everything is a walk in the park.

I die plenty. Sometimes I forget I pulled up my last bedroll and return to start and lose everything because I am so far from the desert. rofl! I have no high level character though, so can’t speak to that, but I have no problems starting a new character. Lowbies die easy, can’t PvP, etc.

Oh well. maybe start fresh?

The thing I want is better drops from the beginning. Gvie me a reason to take on these NPCs and dungeons.

I agree, that the game is way too easy. Also I admit, that this may be, because I learned the game since release of early access. This for me is also my greatest critic. I can learn to predict the game. There is nearly no randomnes in the game mechanic. Once I start to play on a new server I can follow some path up north, circle each hyena and each scorpion, that always is at precisely the same spot. About an hour after starting a new game I have a well set base in middle of a recource rich spot in the north, from where I watch other naked players rushing past me to find one of the well known spots.

What I wish for:

  • Some progress, that is needed to survive going into a higher tier of biom
  • Random and moving spawnpoints for creatures and worldbosses
  • Some randomness in recource distribution
  • Random spots for finding recipes
  • Random population and maybe even random location of camps
  • Working purge with climbing mechanics
  • Moving purge groups in the open world
  • Dungeonbosses that fight back and are worth fighting
  • Real reasons to regularily visit your beautiful and epic places

I truly love this game and I hate the fact, that it doesn’t surprise me anymore. I know, some of those suggestions are hard to program, but so was everything you already did. Keep up the great work.

I like the difficulty on the official server the way it is.

I can still kill things in encumberance build. You should try it. Things are still fun, with that build. I can imagine u guys go full on str 4, and facemelt everything with taliths sorrow

I for one am glad I don’t have to switch specs to STR 4 everytime i wanna kill something.

I get the full DPS builds in PvP…not really much of an option. Gimp yourself for PvE challenge then get mauled by the ‘Normal’ build.

On my private server (that was still active until this latest stability mess) I had everything set for a ‘Hard Core Gaming’ style environment. If one was NOT paying attention they would get wrecked fast. The real issue is this new combat is great to look at…but the game designers/coders never put in a proper AI to go with it. Once again here we are about Game AI (AoC, TSW…also had ‘cheap’ AI). I can easily run around in a topless bikini in the north and harvest my goods while jogging and walking. Sometimes just for fun I collect 10+ wolves to help keep me focused and moving. Then when I am almost full I drag them and more back to my thrall platforms and we have it out. Easy mats.

I know this will perturb some of you…but the devs should really go play Skyrim for a couple of days. The mechanics are similar enough. The elegant simplicity of Skyrim’s combat is what makes it constant fun. The AI ‘Actually’ does some pretty cool stuff and with a combat mod like Wildcat installed it is dangerous. Especially when getting flanked by the 3rd+ enemy.

What is NOT to like about that? Dangerous ‘Feel’ and the AI actually does things to make NPCs come alive…or at least increase the immersion.

i run full encumberance build all the time. Even with that gimped build everything is way too easy.

U dont need better loot from the begining since you already can run straight up north and get good stuff there.

Judging by your avatar, your gonna be a difficult one to have a discussion with lol.
I find fighting Kinscourge in encumberance build to be how the encounter was meant to be.

Push, for as long as one still has HP and stamina, then shield up, regen, rinse repeat. A strategic battle of attrition.

How do you defeat Kinscourge in encumberance build?

we don’t need it to be an annoying grind now, there’s Ark for that.

The best thing about this game is the ease of being able to get materials and the best armor/weapons.

What we need is BALANCE. Not more grind.

The AI being total trash doesnt help the difficulty either.

bow with poison arrows, daggers, and kingslayer polearm

I don’t want more grind. absolutely not. increasing the difficulty has nothing to do with grind. when I mention difficulty I’m not talking about crafting, materials or building. I’m talking about NPc’s, bosses, dungeons, world bosses, survival , weather

One of the problems is when it comes to combat if you keep jogging, you don’t even have to sprint, you can avoid being hit at least in PvE.

I think this also affects PvP too. Not saying we shouldnt be able to run away but as it stands its a little too easy.

I just went in, hit it with my weapon (I think a Spear at that time), dodged the attacks, healed up when needed, rinse and repeat.
No daggers, no bows, no arrows. No repairs needed either.
Most, if not all, bosses can be beaten with any kind of build. The differences are merely time and “material costs”.

I mean, I posted a video some days ago, of a “no Attributes but some Encumbrance, no Armor, no Warpaint and Steel Poniards vs. Demonic Spider Worldboss” run.
Shouldn’t really be possible, regardless of the invested time and used up materials.

About the difficulty in general (from my personal PvE perspective):
It needs to go up.

  • Environmental Effects are a joke and of little consequence. Even with a non-suitable armor (heat resistance in cold areas and vice versa) the Vit30 perk takes care of everything.
  • Sandstorm? Even without the Vit30 it doesn’t come anywhere near of killing you with Epic Armor.
  • Bosses: Most are a walk in the park, thanks to bad AI, low stun/stagger resistance for some and easy to discern attack patterns.
  • Normal enemies: Outside of that 4 men T3 Fighter pack in the Well of Skelos at the Forge (if you’re unlucky) and the bugged Rhinos, not really a threat.
  • There’s no enemy can catch up to you and pose a threat once you are start running (some are merely really stubborn at chasing the player)
  • High end resources are available in abundance…
  • Distances don’t matter because of Map Rooms.
  • Recipes are easily accessible
  • No planning for the tasks you want to do needed, nor are there any restrictions, because of easy respec.

Until they address those problems, there’s sadly little challenge in the game.
