Game becomes slow/unresponsive after joining specific server

Game mode: Online private
Type of issue: Bug | Performance
Server type: PvE - non dedicated
Region: US northeast

About 10 seconds after joining a friends coop non-dedicated server, my game becomes slow and unresponsive, menus take seconds to respond to clicks, audio stutters, mouse movement becomes erratic and button presses take awhile to register. This is not just normal lag, its as if my hardware cant run the game, but only when connected to his server.

I can run SP fine at full graphics, I can join other servers. He can join my Co-op server with no issue. Its only when I connect to his. In addition it is only happening to me, a third person has no issues on his server and has played for hours on it without issue.

We have both restarted our computers. I have tested with graphics options set to minimal and there is no difference. My ping on his server was between 100-250 during the slowdown. This was done 5/9, after the anniversary patch.

Please provide a step-by-step process of how the bug can be reproduced. The more details you provide us with the easier it will be for us to find and fix the bug:

  1. Join friends non dedicated server
  2. Everything runs smoothly for about 10 seconds then the entire game becomes unresponsive and slow.

Up bug!
Same problem here on PC Private server EU.
It starts directly on game launch aswell. Like cinematics, Nvidia 1st screen etc.
all is already unresponsive and slow when i join server
Totally unplayable.

I will wait for hotfix  May the gods help us

In my case I can actually get all the way into the one server with no issues, cut scenes etc. Its only after Im in for about 10 seconds does it happen.

Hey everybody,

Would it be possible to let us know your system specs and share a video of this issue in action?
Additionally, since you’ve all reported this happening either in coop or private servers, do you have any mod installed?

Hey @Ignasi

Here my spec :
CG : NVIDIA GTX 970
PROC : i7 4790k 4.00GHZ 64 bits
RAM : 16Go
1 ssd and 1hdd (conan is on hdd, never had problem before)

No mods + steam files verified, battleeye updated.
(i will try a video later, for now i tested again and freeze on Nvidia screen + very very long loading screen then finally same problem back in game)

Thank you!

Edit : moved Conan files from HDD to SSD fixed the problem. the game is responsive and doesn’t freeze. But still stuttering and there is no ambient music. Just fight music.

Let me guess, stutters happen in same spot every time?

@KingOfPredators everywhere for me

Sorry, I meant spots.

If it happens in same spots everytime, it is “awesome” read performance of CE. I would say that haswell at 4GHz is supposed to be able to brute-force thru it, but there is always a chance for that min spec to be increased when there is word optimization in patch notes

If stutters happen randomly, there are 4 possibilities here:

  1. Lack of RAM/VRAM, most common but not in case of “almost” 20gb combined memory
  2. Unstable RAM/VRAM. I think it is safe to say we can skip this one since this can can be noticed even without memtests. It is also very rare
  3. Make sure that 970 is not using slow 0.5gb of RAM. Should not be the issue since it is supposed to be locked in drivers
  4. Kernel/DPC latency. You can check this with LatencyMon. Also, highly unlikely because it would be noticeable everywhere.

Hey King, thank you for your feedback!. Too kind! The thing is, my stutters happening in CE only, not on other games, and they are little. So i will keep in mind your 4 test points just in case the pb evolve.
