Game Crashes before it even starts. 2023

Bug Description:

Game crashed my entire PC when I used a teleporting pad to teleport home. Now I can’t even launch the game without a fatal error occurring with bug reports. If I don’t acknowledge the Fatal Error box or Bug Report Box, I can play for 3-5 minutes before it turns itself off.

Attempts to fix this issue includes:
Verified Files. Clear Steam Cache. Uninstalled/Reinstalled. Re-verified Files. Cleared Computer Cache. Updated all drivers and cards. (when I ignore error boxes) Placed settings on low quality laptop. No Joy on any of it.

Bug Reproduction:

Bug reproduction? I simply try to turn on the game.

Tried deleting saved games and still didn’t work. It was working fine all month until the day of this report. Seriously can’t get any help with this?

Here, I’ll bump your thread so you can post your logs, before your thread gets auto-locked

Conan game logs:

Right-click the game in Steam → Manage → Browse local files. This will open the installation folder
Navigate to ConanSandbox\Saved\Logs\
Grab the ConanSandbox.log right after a crash or the corresponding older timestamped log with the crash (it gets cleared if you restart the game and saved as a timestamped backup instead)
Upload it here with the Upload button:

Msinfo and dxdiag:

Hit Win + R to open the run box
Type msinfo32 in the box and click okay
On the window that appears click File → Export
Save it to a location then attach the file here to your post
Do the same with dxdiag in the run box and clicking the Save All Information button on that

Umm… ouch.

Judging by those logs your computer is very due for a clean Windows reinstall (without all that unnecessary Avast crap ) - various other things are constantly crashing on your PC, including windows explorer.

However in the meantime you could try the following:

Download the video drivers for your graphics card from here and install that (select custom and tick the perform clean installation box)
Delete the entire contents of that ConanSandbox\Saved\Logs\ folder you got the game logs from
Restart your computer and try again, see if it’ll load.

I wouldn’t bother with it at all.
When it comes to PC security, Microsoft actually stepped up their game in the last years.

Remember how everybody was making memes and jokes about windows defender reacting late?
It works pretty well nowdays and typically more than enough for the average user, with the benefit of it being integrated into the operating system.

Also your avast has several other modules installed like a “performance booster” (those never work ) and one that messes with drivers… (likewise). Basically all it’s doing is needlessly slowing down your computer and potentially causing issues with other software.

Thanks, Man. FINALLY real answers.
I had seen another article about deleting a save file, but not the whole logs. The other about the graphics update I did as well before and it didn’t work either.

I deleted the logs and did the latest update from your link and it finally worked.

Final question, how to do a clean windows reinstall without losing all my stuff such as work, pics, vids, and games? Or is it possible to just clean it up and get rid of some things clogging me up?

Windows 10 and newer have the mobile phone-like “Factory reset” option in Settings → System → Recovery that will allow you to keep personal files etc, however I personally haven’t tried that yet Always did a regular install.
I’m sure it works fine though, but just in case you should probably make backups of important stuff.

In this case though I would also recommend you upgrade your BIOS.

Your motherboard is somewhat older, however it’s still running literally the factory 1.0 BIOS and since then many compatibility problems and stability issues have been fixed - that could account for a number of your various crashes.

Here’s the page for that, you can see instructions on the top, including a video. (you’ll need a USB memory stick for that)

And ofc you would get the latest one that’s on top of the list, but just a quick scroll to read the highlights would give you a fair idea of just how many things they changed during the years they supported that product

If you proceed and do a clean Windows install, don’t forget to once again reinstall the graphics drivers I linked to you earlier from the Nvidia site.
