Immediately after installing the game, Battleye blocks the game from launching at all. I cannot play the game, online or offline, in any capacity. Battleye says it’s blocking a file, “version.dll.” I’ve tried reinstalling it, I get the same issue every time. I’ve tried verifying file integrity through steam, it does not fix the issue. Also tried running as admin, did not help. Game is 100% unplayable online.
Do you by any chance use an M2 drive or an SSD?
With file repair from the Steam menu you get the message that you need to download files but the download process doesn’t start?
This is due to damaged clusters.
If this is the case, you need a program to repair them as soon as possible. Please note that some applications may not work properly.
If you have space on your HD, try this procedure:
Find the folder where you installed Conan
Example D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common
Copy the Conan Exiles folder and paste it, you will see that a new folder will be created with the name: Conan Exiles - copy.
Wait for the process to finish and you will have two folders:
Conan Exiles
Conan Exiles - copy
If during the copy process you receive the error that you cannot copy files, it means that you have damaged clusters; after the copy is complete, do the following:
Rename the first folder Conan Exiles to Conan Exiles–.
Rename the second folder Conan Exiles - copy to Conan Exiles
Run the file check if the process comes to an end without any problems with the downloand of the missing files you have now 90% solved your problem.
Remember that you have a folder named Conan Exiles-- of about 100gb in which you have some bad sectors that you need to repair as soon as possible because the moment you delete the Conan Exiles-- folder and its contents you make the bad clusters available to other applications or updates.
I do have it installed on my SSD. I did as you suggested and copied it in the steam path, I did not have any error messages though. I am not sure if that means I’m free of damaged clusters or not. I will try installing it on my other drive, not SSD, and see if that makes any difference. Thank you for your suggestion, even if it did not fix the problem.
Edit to clarify: this did not solve the issue.
I’m thinking maybe my SSD does have damaged clusters. Installing the game on my backup drive worked great. I’m able to play online finally. I’ve never had trouble with any other game, games usually okay much better on my SSD. But I’m just happy it’s finally working correctly.
