And was it really overbuilding? I don’t think this is a slam dunk of that.
Indeed and I wish that all of us could show a united front. It’s been years of these discussions and there’s so many interpretations, opinions and we’re all so fragmented. These tragedies have contributed to the lowering of Official populations.
But not necessarily. They had intent but didn’t act upon it fast enough for anyone to know any better.
So of course it looks like they’re being abusive.
Let’s say I lay out my template with foundations and then get called into work and can’t log in for a few days or any example where intent, time and the conclusion couldn’t be achieved, am I really being abusive? Was I wrong in having laid those foundations? Anyone that knew my intent would probably agree it was fine given the circumstances. It’s not like we are able to submit our build intent to be reviewed by a committee… and shouldn’t be.
This is where my criticism of NOT logging into a server to review a land claim violation is so harsh. Someone could report me on day 1 because they’re a righteous ass and 2 days later I finished the build and started using it. Then, days or weeks later once enough reports are accumulated for the server are reviewed, the save is taken from whatever point and my build is shift click deleted and I’m suspended because there couldn’t be the simple courtesy of a proper review. Inexcusable.
There is actually nothing in ToC about villages. It is in the accompanying post about land claim violations culprits to avoid. You can have a village but it has to be FUNCTIONAL. Meaning, you use it regularly to play the game and not just as a show piece. I think this distinction has needed to be made badly.
It’s more like your personal interpretation takes precedence over spirit. But as you say, you stopped reporting. I think it’s a good thing you’ve stopped.
Not exactly. I was a PVE player before I was PVP and from April to August, I was on PVE. I’m all about the game in all of its modes. I don’t think less of PVErs and I don’t think I am superior because I’m a PVPer. I used to see land claim violations daily too before the report wars started; before those wars started I was even successful in having insane builds removed via my reports. At one time there was no difference in the way that Officials looked regardless of mode. The wars helped to devastate PVP. Reporting in general has helped to clean up servers but at the severe detriment of population and in turn did not educate - it has created resentment and infighting among players, accusations and turmoil. Lacking the united front we need to see a change.
While you and I agree that the system needs an overhaul, not everyone understands it at our levels as it currently is/was or that it is Funcom that laid the foundations for its destruction.
The true fault in all of this is not the players, Lord of the Flies and personal responsibility notwithstanding.
Multiple times on the server I’m on I’ve seen foundation layouts, I see them think “hmmm wonder what is going in there” and on about my business.
I don’t. As I have said repeatedly and people just blow by it because it doesn’t fit the tag they want to hang on me. For me to report some one it has to be an obnoxious, no question it a ToC violations. I mean you really have to motivate me to put in the effort.
I’m fairly oblivious and myopic, in order to get my attention you have to go above and beyond. Kind of like the husband the football game and the wife. As long as you don’t come between me and the TV I’m not going to notice you naked and twerking.
Yes but I know the difference between a base built in a village style and some one just wanting to pave a section of map and cover it with houses.
I think you would benefit from shifting your view from your pet peeves and that players require responsibility regarding those pet peeves as a result of your interpretations of the ToC. I was there dude. I was once you. Not vocal on here but definitely told people how to act, berated, assumed and insulted them in Global. But once I shed these feelings, my mind completely changed about the whole damn thing. Instead, I focused only on myself, realized the ToC was to help ME be responsible in sharing. I know you’ve said before that rules are meant to be followed and upheld. While I wouldn’t ascribe that rules are meant to be broken, if they’re unjust than I do not believe they need to be The Word. I am not suggesting that this is an excuse to break or stretch the spirit of the rules. You cannot force others to follow what you believe is right; this hasn’t worked and it doesn’t work irl either. Think of “the beatings will continue until morale improves”. It ain’t it.
And that is essentially it. A village with a purpose such as being a base, awesome! A village as a show piece, bad! That is what SP, personal privates and privates that allow it are for. But assuming OP wanted to build a village solely to land claim, that’s where these shifts need to be made IMHO.
It’s teasing me a lot. Especially when the land claim is pretty wide.
When i see spider webs i want to puke.
Hopefully when a server is getting ruined by a troll i simply go away, i am not staying there to ruin my stomach with any of these trolls. It’s my gaming time not my working time and when i understand that i ain’t going to have fun, i jump in a server that i will.
But there are people who like to play only in particular servers and for them reporting is one way street .
I am happy i am not bounded from digital fantasy claims and fortunes. I enjoy the company of good people and i run away from the ones that will surely ruin my day.
I know that what i am doing is not correct and solves nothing of the official games problems. Yet in my real life i am mostly the first who will do the dirty job done, that’s why i avoid it in my gaming time.
As I have said before and is still being ignored, my interpretation of the ToC is very forgiving. Just because I see something as a ToC violation I error on the side of leniency when it comes to actually reporting it.
I’m basically lazy, so you really have to make it worth my effort to report you.
Oh I could have such a discord on that statement. but not a here or now thing.
Rules are not there to be broken, they are there because… well, people. Not everyone is capable of acting with restraint, respect, or responsibility. So we have rules that we all agree to abide by.
I will most enthusiastically agree those rules need to be far less open to interpretation. But that wont help at all as long as it is up to us to be the server HOA agents.
Sure ya we’re the ones that have been dumped with having to report (if necessary) since there’s nonexistent active administration. Like you, unless it was seriously obnoxious (my gosh some of the crap I’ve seen), I couldn’t be bothered even back then. Now I can’t bother at all, I’m not going to be their labour when they can’t do it themselves via in game mechanisms or active admining.
I apologize for possibly causing any stress to anyone that has responded to my post. This was the only way I could find to seek out answers to the sudden damage to my tribe’s history.
I am suspended until Friday and I might lose everything else that I was left with right before the suspension. If I do, then I will unfortunately seek relaxing asylum in the next survival game I end up in.
I wish for the best adventures to @Kikigirl@stelagel@DeaconElie and AnyGamer (sorry, it wouldn’t let me tag you too )
May you keep finding your peace in Conan Exiles, SCUM or any other games you adventure in.
I appreciate all of y’alls wisdom and insights in this topic and bid you all a farewell as I, in a sense, take that walk out past the barrier in The Exiled Lands.
For me at least watching Funcom shoot themselves in the foot with these policies, and now the beta reports from Age of Heros also, is more entertaining than the game itself nowadays.
In honor of kikigirl’s beta reporting:
Said policies are a double edged sword that could easily be turned on Funcom, without breaking a single rule, by disgruntled players should they wish. Not that hard to figure out how.
