Hey @DaFaDa

Welcome to our community.
Could you let us know your system specs to see if there might be an issue with that?

Thanks so much. This just started after the patch, and it is not all the time.

This sounds just like my problem. I am using Steam play to play Conan Exiles via Kubuntu 19.10 -Linux-. I was starting to wounder if it was a Steam play issue. Now I know it happens on Windows too so probably a game problem rather than a Steam play problem. Not a mod problem as I already tried unmoded.

Figured it out… at least for my system…

The opening video no longer lets me stop it and cut to the menu; I have to watch it through and then the game starts normally. Interesting though: While the movie is playing the .exe for the game in Task Manager shows unresponsive, which is common with programs that are running a process or are “Stuck” seemingly.

Still, I think it’s a bug, and it’s only some of the time, but at least I can play…

Hey @DaFaDa

Thanks for keeping us updated with your issue. We’ve relayed it to our team to see if there’s any issue that can be squished regarding resource consumption.

Hey guys, there is one thing you can try to eliminate the problem and I use it anyway to quicken the load time. The following may have to be done each major revision or performing a local file validation.

Find “F:\Steam\steamapps\common\Conan Exiles\ConanSandbox\Config\DefaultGame.ini” (your path will vary, but you want DefaultGame.ini) and open it. If you are uncomfortable, make a backup copy first.

Scroll down and find:
bWaitForMoviesToComplete=True
Change that to:
bWaitForMoviesToComplete=False

Save the file and start the game. Please let us know if this helps.

Regards

jim

I too was contemplating reporting how unresponsive this game is for me upon launching.

Specifically, after launching it through Steam, it won’t respond to Alt-Tab and often will not accept any keyboard input until nearly through the opening videos. All the while, the hard drive is going crazy and worst of all, the opening videos almost never play correctly. You will hear the audio of each video, but the video itself doesn’t play until it finally catches up, somewhere around the person being cut down or sandstorm beginning.

Aside from this my game performance has been getting poorer and poorer. I do have a physical platter hard disk, and believe that the QA and Dev teams don’t test with those scenarios, but that is pure speculation on my part. Running off of disks that exist, but are not the most rapid, should be a part of the design parameters that a company accounts for, when evaluating adequate performance.

I would like to make a forum post about the excessive file reads involved with the Graphine texture loading plugin, but that would be a separate topic, which I’d write about with supporting evidence. For this thread, I just wanted to report the non-responsiveness during the game loading screen up through the menu presentation. The workaround posted here is something I’m going to explore. Thank you, @Jim1 for this link! You’re the best!
