German translation of magi is wrong

“Magi” is latain. The error in the English translation does not justify the errors in the German translation.

Falsch. Sie ist vollständig. Wir haben hier keine Übersetzung aus dem lateinischen, sondern eine aus dem englischen und dort hat sich der Entwickler dafür entschieden “magi” als Eigennamen zu verwenden. Als Name für eine Gruppierung.

this is not a translation from latain into englisch into german. we talk about an english original text and “magi” is a proper noun and therefore the translation is 100 % correct

Falsch, es ist keine korrekte deutsche Übersetzung. Es ist ein lateinisches Wort und kein Eigenname.

The translation is not correct. It sounds so strange in german! It is not a proper noun, but let the deveolper decide if they care about this dissussion.

the way the word “magi” is used in the english original and then also in the german translation, it is definitely a kind of proper noun for this group of opponents. proper nouns, even if they are self-defined, are usually not translated. especially not if the starting point, i.e. the english original, already makes this determination and deliberately refrains from a translation.

Es geht eigentlich nicht um Recht. Vielleicht fällt jemand die Diskussion auf. Viel schlimmer finde ich das auf Siptah der Marabu als Pelikan verkauft wird - klar ist es ein Fantasiespiel, also können sie nun auch immer teurer ihre Fantasien und Fehler verkaufen.

It is a incorrect german translation, if there is a latain word or not is not important. The mixied translation “Schlangen-Magi” makes no sense and sounds strange. I did not think that it is a proper noun.

Haha, I was scared at the amount of replies in this thread.
Read them, in the meantime I’ve been googling “shoot me” gifs btw  None of them are quite right thou
Good luck finding the perfect translation though!

The problem is that “Schlangenmagi” sounds strange - correct or not, it didn´t transport the same atmosphere like “Ophidian Magi”. Better “Ophidian Magi” were never translated :joy:.
