Question in the title. I’m wondering if this is effective, and/or how it compares to orbs, etc.
Yes, they work on the star metal. Need around 5 arrows to crack the shell and they weigh less than 25% what Orbs weigh. I wouldn’t touch them unless you have a Tier 4 Alchemist and a Tier 4 Carpenter though. That reduces steelfire to 50 on the dragonpowder and reduces dragonpowder on the arrows from 3 base to 1. Making the cost 10 Steelfire per arrow rather than 60 with no thralls.

Thanks, that is helpful! I’ve got T3 alchemists, but haven’t been able to bludgeon any named alchemists yet 
I would try a poison arrow and a fire arrow. I usually use just 2 demonfire orbs per rock, but I wouldn’t use anything that requires dragon powder unless I’m bombing a base
