Not necessarily “negating.” That would only be true if those are equal subtractions. Multiplying damage and only a slight hp decrease would still make the fighters “harder.” The net result of what Funcom did was make the fights ‘faster.’

Negation, however, I believe is found in the point you made, @Oduda – infinite rolling. That’s the part the messed up fights. There’s not really a penalty for armor types anymore (light, medium, heavy) and spamming rolls just prolongs the fights with no penalty because nobody can hit each other. Its like they moved the game forward with one hand, and took back the improvements with the other hand.
